Hi Im from Liverpool, have lived in NZ in Wellington for about 10 years, and now in 2nd period back living in England (1 year so far). Ive got a kiwi wife and twin daughters born in NZ. Emma and Rebecca are now sounding a bit English with a blend of Derbyshire and NZ accents. We have a new addition due on Oct 1st. Ive been through the experience of emigrating, coming back, going back again, then coming back again !
Im happy to have discussions with anyone going through similar yo-yo-ing experiences, or generally wanting advice on anything kiwi from an ex-pats perspective of living there on a long term basis.
Cheers !

Hi Steve,
Welcome to ENZ
Wow, what makes you keep yo yo'ing like you do?
Anything you feel relevant on life in NZ, would be really helpful, i'm very interested to know why you keep coming and going

Hi Steve, Re: your yo yoing experience, I was chatting to a friend of my brothers the other week who like you had lived in the UK, but had emmigrated to Australia stayed there a few years, then came back to the UK, and is now talking about going back to Australia later this year for a while.
From what he has said and yourself I think I am just trying to say think this feeling may well be quite normal. Maybe it has something to do with liking different things about the two different countries, who knows.
Oh my god just had a thought does this mean I am going to feel the same |

I have to admit to being a Yo-Yo...but hopefully this is my last Yo!
UK > NZ > UK > NZ!
I think it's only normal after a period of a few years to go back to the land of ones birth to check it out.
When I last returned to the UK I was seduced into staying for a number of reasons...some too personal to mention here. Somehow you slip back into your "old" way of life and it all seems very cosy...but secretly you have moments when you wonder ....what if I'd stayed????? How different would my life had been?
I think deep down we are all trying to reassure ourselves that our decision was right!
Here's hoping! |
