Smile Hi guys, right, read the books done the research, but confussed about one aspect???? My husband is travelling to NZ in July and has a number of interviews with recruitment consultants and potential employees, he is hoping to gain an offer of employent fingers crossed which will lead to myself and children joining him upon this basis, but what basis will we travel on? Confused will it be a open visa we apply for, if so which end, UK or apply for it in NZ?, Will my eldest child be entitled to schooling ( he will be 7years old) or will we have to pay for his education, or is it only free if we take up PR,? So many questions I know but its so difficult to understand!!! obviously want to do everything right. Smile Thankyou everyone, cool

Hi lor,

Assuming your husband is offered a job you have two routes a) you can persue PR application via EOI which could take 3-6 months to get assuming he has points in excess of 150 (only my view) or b) like us you can lodge an EOI with a job offer and also apply for a long term work visa of up to 30 months which allows you to travel here and get yourself established while PR is in progress. If you husband is granted a LTWV you will also get one de facto. Your children will travel on visitors permits until you have PR established and they will run concurrent with yours. If you choose this option be sure to ask for mutiple entry visas in each case and this will mean that if for any reason you have to go back to the UK urgently you can do so without having to get another visa to re-enter NZ. These visas waive the requirements for funds if you have a job paying over $45K per annum and also waive the requirement for a return flight or onward journey. With regard to schooling I believe you would have to pay until you have PR in place at which point it would become free. To check this out go to the NZIS web site at www.immigration.govt.co.nz and follow the links and info for visitors visas.

Hi there, thanks for that info, it has cleared things up for us. it all gets a bit hard to understand at times, maybe its me being a bit thick!! there is so much to take in and prepare really, ready for the future move fingers crossed . I should think if all goes well and he gains an offer of employment we shall go down the same route as yourself.
Good luck to you and your family, and thanks again. Smile

You would only have to pay for schooling if your husband was still on a visitor's permit. If he secures a work permit before applying for PR then the children would also be entitled to free schooling. They would need to apply for student visas, or permits if already there (as dependants of work permit holder). You would also be entitled to an open work visa/permit.

Thanks Grey, thats great news!! big weight of my mind, I think education is so important, we were more than prepared to pay fees but its such a bonus if it will be free, because I know schooling fees do not come cheap.
The student visa for the child and open work visa/permit for myself, do we apply for them once in NZ??
Thanks for all information Smile

You can apply here or there, up to you really.. If your husband stays in NZ then you might find it easier to go out as visitors then apply for the study/work permits in NZ. It's quite straight forward, should get them over the counter.
You can apply for them here though.. if he stays in NZ to lodge his application you can apply for yours once his has been granted, he might also have to send you a letter stating he supports your application. If he applied in London then you could just include yours at the same time (with all the other stuff like proof of partnership etc..)

When you read the 'Study' visa/permit forms you'll probably think they don't really apply to you, but just leave out anything that's not relevant, like which school, course, fees etc etc, you just fill out the basics.
