Have had 2 quotes from Crown and Whites, would be interested to hear peoples experiences of the two. Both seem very professional and I have been impressed so far.

What sort of quotes did anybody get for sole use of 20ft container ?

Did you take out there insurance or is there anybody else who can provide cover ?

Hi Michelle,

We used Crown and so have Eric and Amanda! they were by no means the cheapest but I did haggle and reduced there price by £300.00 so it's worth playing hard-ball with them. Insurance....you are with all professional movers comitted to using their insurance which again is set at a premium and Crown is one of the most expensive. Crown do offer a premium service that covers moild/mildew and damge to sets and electrical equipment. Be very careful to read the small print of these insurance documents you will be suprised what is NOT covered. Also don't forget to cover the value of the shipment costs themselves. That way if the container goes over the side of the ship....and some have been known to....you can claim this cost otherwise you are not insured!

Hi Karl

I managed to get them down by £250 but also got the full insurance with all the mechanical, sets and pairs, mould and mildew for 3% initially it was 4.2%

Its £2675 for a 20foot container so feel thats a reasonable deal.

Jam How did you go on with them ? take Karls advice and haggle.

Hi Michelle

How did you work out your insurance cover? I keep picking the form up, staring at it for a while and putting it down again. I think it might just be stress overload right now but I can't seem to think straight to fill it in.

Then I noticed that replacement values should be at NZ prices which stressed me out even more. We're not sending that much. Do you think I should go for lump sum basis @ £1,800 per cubic metre and mention anything over £1,000 seeing as we are not sending any furniture?

We also have some inherited items of silver which I have no idea of the value. Should I get them valued or just make a guess. Help!!!!

Hi Sandra

I emailled Crown to try to get a quote from them and they asked me to compile at list so they can prepare a quote, as we are only shipping personal items. Was this the same for you? and did you have to include measurements?

Im sorry if this sounds dense Embarassed

Hi Sandra

I went round the house with the sheets they provided as a prompt. I worked out everything of high value and total replacement costs eg TV's computers etc. For smaller items such as pictures and lamps I just worked out a rough cost as a lump sum ie 3 lamps £50 total.

If the whole lot goes overboard, still stressing about that, smaller items wont cost much to replace its the big stuff that worries me so thats what I concentrated on. I am also taking some stuff that I don't particularly want to lose but are hardly worth taking into account.

I have only done a rough calculation so far just to get an idea of the cost but will be more accurate on the final one.

I think its also a good idea to take pictures of stuff, note down model numbers, gather receipts etc which may help if you do have to make a claim. As for your silver it depends just how much it is worh but getting a proper valuation may well be worth while apart from anything else its something you will always have for house insurance purposes.

Didn't realise it wanted NZ dollar valuation but there is no way I can calculate the accurate value of everything but again might just do it for the big stuff.

I have managed to get the insurance that covers all eventualities although I am sure there are still lots of get out clauses. I notice the excess is £100 so you have to ask yourself if its worth listing every single small item because unless its a total loss its not going to be worth claiming for them.

Hope the above helps, does anyone have any thing to add, have I overlooked anything ??

Hi Debs

I'm surprised they asked you to complete your own list. The guy from Crown came and made a note of everything and gave me a quote there and then, which was the same as the confirmation I received. The confirmation also listed everything we are taking and they have asked that we amend the list if there is anything to be added or taken off. The guy was actually there so no need for measurements but I would think they must be necessary as they go by cubic meterage. Is nobody going to call then and give you a quote. Maybe it's cos you e-mailed them d'you think.

Also beware of the fact that they need notice to collect the stuff. I called to accept the quote and said come and get it and they said 'Oh the earliest we can fit you in is in 2 weeks'. Never even crossed my mind that they wouldn't do it immediately. Not thinking straight you see - stress Nutcase

Hi Michelle

Thanks very much for that very helpful - I think I just need to take a calm down pill and lie in a darkened room for a while Laughing

Sandra
