When do we get the forms, what has to be on them, etc.
I know, for example, that wooden things need to be declared. Is it best to keep them and pack them seperate.. a lot of things have a bit of wood in them....
Or do we merely need to point out which boxes have woodedn things in them? |

Re wooden objects; you don't have to declare furniture items unless they contain untreated rattan or wickerwork. The wood MAF is interested in is largely the untreated/unfinished items such as ornaments etc.
They also don't want to see pine cones etc that may contain seeds or disease so you can bin any Xmas decorations that contain such!
Also pot pouri, wax, dried flowers of any kind and seeds of any description!
Thats about it I think |

Hi, Sazzle,
The issue is less about Customs and more about the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF). After much study over their website, I have decided to bring many things which I initially thought I would be precluded from bringing, including herb and spice collection, dried flowers and Christmas decorations. I will clean and disinfect them as directed by MAF. If they don't pass muster that end, then I will discard them. From what I understand, they are very helpful if you drop them an e-mail. It's too soon for us to bother them, but I'm sure they won't mind answering all your specific questions!

Good luck to you! - Rae |
