First visit, site looks good. Hope someone can help me?
Just received by mail my EOI points score of 165 from NZ. But when I initally filled out the EOI and points indicator i was expecting 105. Whats changed? Or can I just not count?
I'm in the 20-29 yr old group.
UK citizen
5 yrs experience in IT (support - i have a CNA in Netware 5.1 and done a few Windows 2000 and 2003 courses - no quals though).
I have a degree - but not in IT.
My other half has A-levels but no degree.
I should qualify for POL and outside Auckland points - and cluster points at a push (Canterbury s/w) - but even then my points dont add up.
How does that add up to 165???
Dont want to get my hopes up that once this value gets selected from the pool I am certain for selection.
If an administrator has made a mistake at this level and is noticed later on, can I appeal against that?
Also, just moved to a new company (more money) so i can save heavily to emigrate over the next year. Will NZ immigration contact them if I get selected (they dont currently know Ive just moved) - and if so inform my new company that I was planning on leaving them in the near future, by requesting info about me etc..? Or can i request they dont contact them? My previous experience should be enough!?!?
Even more dazed and confused... |

Hi,
You didn't mention if you have a job offer in NZ. This will give you 50 to 55 points.

Hi nzforme,
From what you say it sounds like a mistake has been made.
It may be you'll be lucky and can ride the mistake all the way through to residence - do you think this is likely yourself though?
The mistake they've made is probably to have assigned you points for a non-existant job offer. At some stage, they will almost certainly want to verify the 'job offer'. If there is a mistake, you'll almost certainly be found it, so maybe it's best to give them a call and ask them why you got so many points. You might (although I don't think it's likely) get a pleasant surprise.
If the NZIS does detect the mistake, I've no doubt they'll pull the plug on your application. IMHO, you won't be able to appeal - they've recently pulled the plug more than once on people who were entitled to residence at the time they applied. I don't know enough about appeals to say for certain what would happen though so you would be better to seek legal opinion if this is a route you would seriously consider taking.
Keep going. With your skills, I'm sure you could get a job offer here in NZ, and most of us who make it reckon it was worth it. |

Thanks JCM.
Think I'll give them a call or email for clarification. Not sure if that points tally would get accepted in the next 3 months anyway.
I think I have around the 105 pas mark - may hold back (after this application) to see if the pool mark dramatically decreases, or as you say try and gain a job offer.
Thanks once again, and here's hoping!
NZforme....? Maybe not yet!? |
