Yep!
There are these being built and some that were finished about 2 yrs ago and they went for about $140k each. These are way over priced as I dont really think they will be high enough to see the view of the water. If I am paying that much (houses in the area are about $150k) I want to see 'sea!'
They are surrounded by old falling down houses. In time though I think these will be pulled down and replaced. I would buy something crappy, do it up a wee bit, rent it out, and then when they want your land to develop ..sell it to em for a small fortune.

Found a nice area (and a nice apartment - see Realenz and go to property ref PP196510 !!) but needs to be commutable - we don't mind an hours scenic commute! |
Not sure if you are still looking but Wheelsofsteel lives at Diamond Harbour and mentioned a 40-45min commute on this thread
If I was based around Christchurch I would be tempted to live out there - it is stunning. |

Thanks Mac - interesting - it does look stunning and we are used to living remotely having lived in Perthshire Scotland until recently and, when I was still working in Edinburgh, was used to commuting from rural bendy roads through to Edinburgh which was an hour away at least... it's amazing how the change from motorway to rural road made you relax and I did love the last 30 mins of country driving - perhaps Diamond Harbor is like that?
BUT - it did get to me eventually and we worked from home in the end due to the amount of traffic I had to get through once in Edinburgh - I have been hearing that there are traffic problems in Christchurch and not to expect an easy commute - is this right or are people there a little out of touch with what a REAL commute is (i.e. my 2 hr trip to go 5 miles when we lived in London?!!) |

Well, I think the traffic in Christchurch is getting bad, but thats probably only in comparison to the rest of the south island.
It probably takes about 20-30 min to get from the edge into the city centre, whereas in our little city of about half the size its more like 5-10min. I don't know why. |
