Can you help me I love the old kabab and was just wondering if they have really tasty ones in New Zealand with the old pink sauce.

Hi Peter,
I must admit to not having a UK style Doner in NZ, but I have had a more Turkish/Greek kebab in a really funky place in Wellignton. (Various fillings and sauces), the setting is kind of Moorish, so its far from a Blackpool chippie on a Saturday night!!
One further junk related beauty is the Chips - COVERED IN GARLIC BUTTER!
The hot chips melt the spicy, salty, garlic butter and it just tastes so lip smackingly good, damn it's making me need to go to Napier right now.
See you around... |

Haven't we had this conversation before somewhere?
Peter, if you ever get to Dunedin look us up and I'll take you to a selection of good lebanese and turkish places on or just off the main drag. They do real chicken doners (the ones with real meat on the big rotisserie).
And my favourite one has a good selection of sauces, not just garlic, hummous and chilli like some do. |

Not quite the "British" version but and excellent Kebab is to be had at "Kebabs on Queen St" also at Glenfield Mall Shopping Centre! More of a rolled pitta....very scrummy and similar in taste to a "British" one................Oh I've got to go an have one now.......trouble is you really need a few pints beforehand to appreciate them properly!!!!!! (eyes dilated.....saliva dripping everywhere.....and thats just the dog!) |

This has really made me laugh, you back on the quest for Doner Kebabs again. Sorry Peter there is obviously no passion here for a bit of the old Doner Kebab, so get thee self back to UK2NZ. |

As I am American, I don't even know what a Doner Kebab IS. I have learned, however, that one must be sozzled to the gills to fully appreciate it, so I intend when next I am back in the UK to absorb the Doner Kebab experience in all its glory.
I, too, had caught Peter out as I frequent the uk2nz message board, but decided not to tease him and instead see if he got a different response here than he did on uk2nz. As WannabeeKiwi points out, there is much less knowledge on this board (though perhaps not less interest...?) about the subject -- which I think highlights the fact that this board is a more global place.
And that's not a bad thing, is it?
And Peter.. when you eventually DO make it out to NZ, you already have a red hot business idea in hand!!!

Raeven
You might change your mind when you see it...The meat is cut from what can only be described as 'an elephants thigh' that turns slowly on a vertical spit.
(Hence the need for most people to have had a few before it gets apettising)
Still recommended though, with a splash of chilli and plenty of lemon juice |

You might want to tell our kebab house about those other ingredients!!
Extra chilli sauce and a loo roll in the fridge! |
