Hello
I am a pom who has lived in Australia for a while and has recently been awarded permanent Australian residency - after years of paperwork!
Does anyone know whether this allows me working rights and social / health benefits in NZ too? I know there is somekind of reciprocral agreement, but don't know the details.
Any info appreciated!

| It's even better than that, if you have Aus PR you'll be given a NZ residence permit on arrival (as long as your RRV is in date). Doesn't work the other way round though (NZ PR to Aus PR) but does allow you to work. |

cool. so that basically means "i'm in" right? So i could buy property and get healthcare and stuff like that? RRV - is that a retrun resident visa? So do I need to get one of them before I leave Oz?

yup! No more 'hoop jumping', you'll have PR same as anyone else. Could go for NZ citizenship after 3yrs!
Yes, Returning Residents Visa. Not sure on the rules for Aus but I think you get the first one automatically which will be valid for a certain number of years (you'll have to check). Only thing to be careful of is keep the RRV's in date.. For example if you come to NZ & your RRV is only valid for 1yr (think it might be 5yrs for Aus?) if you stay in NZ too long you won't get back in Aus!
But then you might want to stay in NZ anyway.. |
