Hi

Looks like my Company are going to send me to Wellington for 12 - 24 months (from Ireland). The only problem is that this is a fairly new departure for the Comapny so they are only really finding their feet. What I need is any adive you can give me, such as;

Where to live (rent approx 200 p.w. im guessing).
Are there re-location consultants in NZ i could retain ?
How do I open a bank account ?
What is the average cost of living ?
etc etc.

I know this is very general, but any info you can throw at me is much appreciated.

I haven't moved to NZ yet, but I've been there and it's a lot cheaper than Dublin! You'll find the weather pretty similar and the countryside equally green. The towns are a lot quieter than Dublin but the Kiwis are generally the friendliest people on the planet and there's plenty going on - cosy little bars, pubs and cafes, theatre, cinema, museums, galleries, festivals etc. You've been given an exciting opportunity - make the most of it!

I wouldn't really say that the climate is that similar to Ireland or the UK though on a world scale I suppose there are some similarities. Summer temperatures in Wellington are similar the south of England but the the winter doesnt get too cold. Much of NZ gets hotter, though possible wetter as well. Wellington has more than there fair share of sunshine on average.

Wellington seems to fair quite well in terms of average salaries/average house prices. The cost of living is more in Auckland whilst Wellington boasts the highest salaries in NZ.

I am also moving to Wellington for 2 years, hopefully for good. I will be opening an off shore banking account with HSBC. You dont have to be with HSBC and it seems like a good option for the short to medium term.

I would do as much research on the internet including these form before employing a consultant because you may not feel you will need one after some research.
