|
|
Hi all,
I think I am going to have approx 110-120 points with an EOI (without a job offer). Can anyone advise me as to how it works? ie, if I submit an EOI now, and I get accepted, do I have a time limit or is it a case of once you are accepted, you can wait as long as it takes to sell up and move ??
If there is anyone out there that can tell me exactly what happens after you submit an EOI up to you are eligible and have your Permanent Residence visa, I wopuld appreciate it, I have looked at so many websites etc for information, my head is spinning!!
The reason I ask if there is a time limit is that my wife doesn't qualify as a nurse over here in the UK until March 2005 and we would not be in a position to move until after that. It seems that the acceptance for EOI is low at present and I would like to take advantage of that. I presume, as I am using my electrician qualifications to register, that once an EOI has been accepted, I will have to register as an electrician in NZ before receiving permanent residency (although I am told I cannot get perm residence until I have registered, and I can't register until I live in NZ ) Complicated and hard to understand!!
Any help /advice would be appreciated

A few comments...
1. Once you have been issued with PR, you have a year to use it and travel to NZ or you have to apply again. You only get 3 (or perhaps 4?) months if you have a job offer.
There has been a recent thread on this very question so it would be worth rooting around to see what you can find.
2. I'm not an electrician so don't take this as Gospel....but I think UK electricians need to take some "add-on" courses in NZ to allow them to become fully registered over there. Again, I can remember reading something about this on the forum in the past.
3. Teachers also cannot get PR without full registration, which can take up to 2 years. So this may be a requirement for all trades/professions where NZ registration is necessary.
But then, you are not claiming EOI points for a job offer as an electrician, so you should be able to get PR without registration (unless they take into account your qualifications which I presume are sparky related).
Hope this helps, but I think I might have only succeeded in making things worse. |

Hi Nick,
As far as I'm aware you have 3 months to apply for PR once invited. Once PR is granted you have a year to go to NZ or start the whole thing again!! All in all if you are successful in tomorrow's draw ( ) you will have up to about 15 months at the top side to make the move.
I am interested to know, if anyone can tell me, what needs to be done to invoke the PR status. Can you just go to NZ for a couple of weeks or do you have to stay there for longer? Just thinking that once PR is granted it will be easier to get work, so a trip for a couple of weeks to job hunt, then come back to hand in notice and sell the house would be an eligant way to conduct the whole thing.
Cheers,
Mark. |

Hi
Once selected from the pool you have 4 months to submit your application (supporting evidence)
Then NZIS will take 4-6 weeks to issue your visas.
Then regardless of whether you have a job offer or not you have 12 months to move out to New Zealand.
If you were granted PR on account of you having a job offer - you must take up that job offer within 3 months of touching down in NZ.
Hope this helps

Hi,
Has anyone gone through the whole process of having their EOI selected from the pool and gained Permanent Residency? We were selected about three weeks ago and so far we have only had one email requesting clarification of the issuing body for certain qualifications. We replied to this straight away and haven't heard anything since! I was wondering if anyone has any idea of how long the whole process takes?
I'm considering studying and course application deadlines are coming up. I can only afford fees as a NZ resident, so I'm hoping it won't take too long!!!
If anyone has any idea it would be a great help.
Thanks. |

Hi,
I believe Karl has now gone through the process from start to finish. I'm sure he can confirm his timelines. Think his went through very quickly.
However, my colleague was selected in the very first draw back in February and only got his PR through this week... I was selected late April and am still waiting for further medical tests :o(

Hi Guy,
To all intents and purposes, we've done it to the end beacuase we are simply waiting for our passports to be returned with the PR visa's inside.
Here is our time frame.
Submitted EOI with 170 points on 4th March 2004
Selected Mid May
Verified and Invited to Apply for Residence on 23 June 2004
Got everything together (documentary evidence), had medicals etc and submitted Application 1st week August.
We could probably have turned our application around sooner but we were in the middle of selling our house and Neil (hubby) had some exams.
Have spoken to my case officer who informs me that the processing times once you've handed your application in is 4-6 weeks.
We've had the packers in, have completed our house sale and moved in with my mum & dad and the flights are booked for 1 October.
NZIS sent us a letter telling us we had been selected and that it may take up to 12 weeks to be verified but as you can see it was much quicker than this for us. We were a fairly straight forward case. He's an orthodontist, i'm a lawyer and he's got a job offer outside Auckland. We needed to be registered to practice prior to submitting our EOI but as our qualifications are on the Recognised Qualification list we didn't need to go through the NZQA.
Hope this helps - if you have anymore questions you can either post or pm me of you like
