Hi All -
I'm hoping to fly for a job interview July/August. The airfares I've been quoted from Manchester - Auckland and Heathrow - Auckland are all around £900. Sad Anybody out there knows a cheap airline ?

- David.

Hi David,

Start by trying www.airnewzealand.co.uk

Hi,

When we were looking www.ebookers.com and www.airline-network.co.uk both came out fairly cheap.

Worth a try.

Hi

We have done some considerable research for the July/August period and have found that July through to mid August is a fairly expensive time to travel (probably due to the UK school hols). We found that flight prices tend to come down by 16 Aug. Singapore Airlines tends to come out the cheapest closely followed by Emirates although we have only looked at flights from Manchester as we are from Yorkshire also.

These two websites usually come out cheapest of all

www.ebookers.com
www.travelbag.co.uk

Good Luck

May seem a foolish suggestion, but have you tried a travel agent?

We got a very favourable fare (half what air NZ wanted for the same ticket on the same plane) by going through a reseller. On the web, at such short notice, most good deals will be gone so you may be better approaching a large agent (they will buy large allocations of seats at discount and sell them on at their own risk later)

Best I can find on the Web is £882 LHR AKL BA (opodo.co.uk)

You may get a much better deal if you can wait until the last minute to book, but that would get more than a little scary!

Other ideas:

Do you really need to be there? I was interviewed over the phone for my job. The company I work for does recruit abroad a fair bit and are used to it. Perhaps you could see if your potential employer might be prepared to interview you by phone (or at least ensure you are in with a sniff before you go.)

What about sending in a video recording of yourself? If you give a brief talk explaining why you might be the best person for the job and what you would offer a company, you would probably impress. Even more impressive would be to send a DVD (and not in truth that hard to do...)

If you have broadband internet, even a webcam conference might work, especially if you seek work in IT.

If you are the right person for the job, I should think that showing resourcefulness in this respect will only win you favour even if in the end you are expected to come and deal face to face.

Probably useless ramble but you never know Razz

I found a vidoe-conference call specialist that will set up both ends for you for considerably less than the price of a flight.

Hi David

If you don't want to follow the hi-tech route and still plan to fly out it just so happens that I work in the accounts department of a Business Travel Agents. As this forum isn't really for advertising, I'll send you a PM.

Hi David. We travelled out in March and booked through Flight Centre, with air new zealand. They claim to beat any quote including web prices. Worth a try. Tim

Hi we booked via www.wefly.co.uk, based in Blackpool. they were cheap and helpful. Give them a call? They trade under sevral names on the teletext pages on Tv and can search all the airlines. Good luck. I too had an interview over phone , so consider this, b4 you fly. We all came out here for 1700 pounds for 2 adults and 4 kids in june last year..one way only. You can enter you details , online on their site and get quotes that way for different dates.....have fun !!..paul

Hi David

I would recommend trying dial-a-flight. Used them both times I have flown to NZ. Singpaore Airlines were the cheapest both times and I was very impressed with their service.

Try expedia . co.uk. I booked through them and got a good deal with Singapore Airlines...about £3000 for 6 of us one way. Mum has booked to come out in January for a visit and she got a deal through Thomas Cook of £800 return from Edinbugh to Auckland. More expensive because of the school holidays but still a good price.

I find direct with Singapore Airlines the best deal
If you play about with dates/times you can get as low as £500ish at times.
