|
|
Hi
I have to apply for a work visa as we dont have time to wait for PR to be sorted out. I was just wondering if anyone has had it done in the day ?
Have a real problem because I need my passport for work each day, my employers have been really good so far but without a passport I can't work.
What do you think my chances are of getting it done in the day? Ok stop laughing now and tell me honestly. Do immigration have a heart ???

| Pretty slim to get it done in one day i'd say unless you phone them and send all the peperwork minus passport for chrcking the liase with them to get is issued. Why do you need a passport each day for work??? Can you not supply another form of phto ID???? |

Hi Karl
Thanks for replying, I work as cabin crew so each day I leave the country, and as "luck" would have it I have also been rostered nights away overseas so there is no way round it, I have to have my passport.
Phoning them might be a good idea, didn't think about sending all the paperwork minus passport, maybe explain the problem and plead with them. Good idea, thank you. I know the usual turn around is 4 to 6 weeks. I really think I would be pushing it with work who have already given me unpaid leave and are also considering giving me a career break for 3 years to come out to NZ.

| can you send a certified copy of your passport instead of the real thing? from what i understand you can get a solicitor to sign a photocopy of the back page (with your photo on it etc), and you can get this done at short notice. |

Thanks to both of you for those ideas, apparently I can send in all my documentation along with photocopies of my passport and birth certificate and they will contact me when its all been processed. Quick trip down to London and then they will stamp my passport.
Huge relief, its taking about 6 weeks for visas to be processed at the moment, I would not have been popular at work !
The only visas that can be processed on the day are working holiday visas.

We have just had our applications returned to us because we submitted certified copies rather than the originals. It seems that they are no longer accepting copies (despite advice to the contrary from their "helpline" last week). We require our passports for travel purposes next week and then again 8 weeks later. As it takes up to 9 weeks to process an application, we can't really rely on NZIS returning the passports for when we need them. This would mean delaying our application until October. We wanted to get to New Zealand before the end of the year for schooling puposes so we probably won't bother any more. |

| I submitted applications for General Work visas for my wife and me and Student visas for our children. We sent certified copies of our passports rather than the originals because we were informed that we could send the originals at a later date in order to get them stamped. |

My work visa came through today, yipeee. I sent all the documentation off except my passport 3 weeks ago, phoned up tuesday to check on the progress, told it was all done, sent passport tuesday PM and got it back this morning.
Very impressed, the lady dealing with it has been on holiday only came back tues and dealt with it straight away.
Anyway I only sent photocopies of original documents except bank statements etc.
Very pleased to see nice work visa in there hope PR is as quick !

| Did you guys have to have a job offer first before submitting the work permit papers? |

For the work permit, I think you need a job offer but again I might be wrong on that. If thats the case, you can apply for a visitor (Job Search) visa.
Hope this answers your question. |

| Yea, I'm going to be moving over there for atleast a few years after I finish off my degree. I heard the best way is to go over on a three month visitor visa then try and find a job, then try and get a work permit. Maybe after a few months I'll see about that whole work for residency thing, but don't want to decide on that till I spend more time over there. |

Hi Gratto, yes I did have a job offer before submitting the paperwork. You can submit an EOI without a job offer though.
Hi Nicky
I am so relieved to have a nice shiny work visa in my passport, and so quick. I am coming out as a nurse, I have worked in NZ previously as a nurse and am going back to my old hospital although its a different job. Monday to Friday 8 till 4 its, the first time I have done regular hours in 23 years so looking forward to it. Not intending to go back flying I have done it for 17 years but travel is very much in my blood and I have a few ideas up my sleeve to keep in the travel business. I combine the 2, well 3 jobs actually, at the moment as I also teach on cabin crew courses at a college. All those evenings and weekends free I will have to find something travel related to do
The people who interviewed me seemed so nice and have been very helpful so I can't wait to start. Going home at the same time every day and to the same bed (my home not hotels!) is going to be such a treat.
Flying has been very good to me, I have been to places I would never have visited and some I would never have wanted to go to! but its not the same job as it used to be at least not for me. It used to seem exciting and glamorous and I suppose its had its moments but for the vast majority of the time its just hard work.
Its something I always wanted to do and I don't regret it for a minute but I think I will keep my feet on the ground in future.
Might see you at the BBQ in Christchurch

Since you've actually applied for a work visa....successfully...I'd like to know if the following list of documents for submission is pretty much what they're expecting :
- degree certificate
- cv
- job offer letter
- medical certificate
- police certificate
- proof work experience (payslips,evaluations)
- bank statements
- passport
Anything missing from this list??? |
