I have it good authority that snake meat tastes a bit like chicken as well. So you are spoilt for choice now.

No snakes in NZ though Timbo Smile Will just have to stick with Kingi, rather that than skipping over to Oz for a swift Taipan Eek Eek Eek

Moorf. Yes, all aspects of everything to do with fishing are covered and talked about in great depth at this site. Very friendly and helpfull bunch of mostly native NZers. I only joined on 30 june and already have around 12 offers of boating trips etc. for when we get there.

Hmmm... many women involved in deep sea there?!!

Hubby is definitely going to get into it but I wondered if it was something of a male environment!!

I just posted a few general questions in the Briny Bar and got inundated with replys. I post under "Penguin" if you want to have a nose.
Why does your profile give location as Northland. I have tried to put a location on mine but cant find that facility.

Probably the best fish n'chips I've had here in the UK were up north in Whitby (or near Whitby). And in my limited experience of NZ it was at Manganoui, Northland. I remember seeing Tarahiki and Snapper on the menu and the Tarahiki was definitely my fave. Funnily enough almost every small-town fish and chip shop I saw in NZ declared itself the "best in the world"..! Also they always battered and fried the fish to order, while here in the UK the fish is often cooked then stored on a hot shelf so it's not as fresh. That's ok if you're hungry but it means the batter's a bit stale. What other kinds of fish do you get over there? I think I still prefer Haddock.

Hmm.. Not sure where I was going with this thread.. just daydreaming really.. Mmmm... chips..

ps - I eat apples and broccoli too

My names is Jas from Malaysia. I used to lived in Wanganui for 4 years(91-94). I considered Wanganui town has most wondefull fish and chips in the world. Very cheap only cost u NZD1.00 and most of the seller ic Chinese shop.
