Thats good, last time we went on a work visa they gave us 40 kg. We are going in Sept and it looks like our PR wont be through so its work visas again, I hope we manage to get the 40Kg, can't face the hell of LA just to get 64kg.

Cons
1. If you stop-over in L.A. you can experience problems with your luggage owing to the transfer.

2. Air New Zealand does not offer individual TV/Computer Game Terminals. Their aircraft are currently fitted with large-screens that play to the whole cabin.

3. The transit lounge in L.A. is spartan and uncomfortable. Considering that passengers are between lengthy, tiring flights, the transit-lounge is unacceptable.

4. Air New Zealand flies direct only into Auckland.

5. The attitudes of the occasional air hostess/steward may not be as positive as the airline would wish for.

Karl

Did you know that from November, Air NZ will also fly direct from L.A into Christchurch?? A bit of a plus for us lot heading to the S.I Clapping

Direct Los Angeles - Christchurch flights
Air New Zealand announced that from November 2 2004 it will commence the first ever non-stop flights between Christchurch and Los Angeles.

Operating three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, the new service will also connect directly with Air New Zealand's flights between Los Angeles and London, providing a one stop service between Christchurch and London.

Thanks for the info, Michelle. Seeing as Christchurch is looking increasingly likely as a destination, that is good to hear.

Hi Tanya,

Great comments about LAX.....to some up...it's pants! We only went via LAX because of the baggage issue. Our Mothers are flying out with Emirates from Manchester next year!

Air New Zealand.......not what it used to be...no longer the pride of the pacific I'm very sorry to say! Good leg room with 34" in ecoamy but Oh the lack of in flight entertainment...woeful.

If your taking a CAA approved voltage inverter to use with your laptop as I did (inflight DVD's for the kids) forget Air NZ....no 12v outlet in the seat......£80 waisted!!! If this is important to you check with your airline for it's configuartion and age!!

Nice One

Hi Karl

It's a difficult one isn't it - the baggage is the best bit with 4 of us as you appreciate.- a lot can be put into 4x64kg!! Its such a weigh up - baggage vs entertainment. The children can't see the big screen on Air NZ but that meant they are more inclined to try(!!!) and sleep some of it.

If we ever sell this dammed house fingers crossed fingers crossed - it will be a small part of the decision/planning process - in the grand scheme of things its a day in your life on a plane.

Good to see your computer back from being repaired!

Tanya
