We have to have a nights stopover in Singapore. Do you recommend a particular Hotel?

Hi Wilson,
By the time we touch down in Singapore, we're not the cheeriest of chappies. Getting through customs (standing in a seemingly never-ending queue the last time) to the bus departure park and then sitting on the bus with our exhausted kids (none of us can sleep on the aircraft) for 45 mins into Singapore, then hotel check in once we get into the city is just hassle that we don't need.
When we've stayed in the city itself, we've done it via a Singpore Airlines stopover deal and we were 'assigned' the Penisula/Plaza. It was alright.
I'd recommend staying in the airport itself. As far as I know there are two hotels within the airport. Staying in one of them saves you from going through customs and a bus ride into the city and back. This is what we did last time and it was much better. |

We've just booked one-wayers to Auckland for £535 (incl taxes) in July with Malaysian, who are excellent. Having gone straight through last year , we decided to stop off for one night in Kuala Lumpur.
We nearly went on Air NZ, but decided to pass on the extra allowance; and having been long haul with personal screens, we couldn't go back 20 years to the days of a single Big/Little cabin screen (depending on how far back you are sitting!). But if you book through the Air NZ website, you can choose your seats , which may be worth the extra £20 or so it would have been to go direct through them rather than a travel agency.
Used Travelbag who were very efficient, but used Dialaflight last year who I could also recommend. But last year, only £615 return in March!! UK summer holidays I suppose.

Hi all,
Came through Singapore a few days ago and stayed in the Ambassador Transit hotel. It is in the upstairs of the terminal so you do not have to clear customs, you just go straight up to the hotel once you land. It was ideal for us as we had 7 hours in Sing. No good if you want to go into the city.
Book early to get into the terminal one hotel. Terminal two has got noisy building work until 2005.
Singapore Airlines were brilliant, will definately use next time.

We're staying in KL centre, because we have 36 hours between flights for a one-night stop-over. Connections between the airport and city are excellent.
Bit of a pain to check in again, but probably worth it overall. Pan Pacific (5*) in the city is £40 per room per night. Bargain!!
We nearly went for Singapore, but Malaysian has a 34 inch pitch, compared to their 32''. Malaysian also leave LHR at midday which means that the first half of the flight is at a decent time (i.e. not overnight); much better if you can't sleep on planes.
But our Travelbag agent said that Air Singapore have some excellent off-peak deals at the moment, because they are trying to encourage travel after last year's SARS.
