Thanks for this link Timbo, it's quite unbelievable, the shortages!

My Other half is a Chippie and we still don't have the points without a job offer....madness really, we could be there filling some gaps, instead we are waiting for the points to drop again Nutcase

Lisa, where are you hoping to go to. I have very recently seen ads specifically for chippies in ChCh. Also saw a web site last night for a large Govt. accredited firm looking out for trades men who are willing to travel around nz and possibly oz. I will find it and Pm you the details if you want.

OK, just curious. I have seen the term "chippie" but am not sure what this means. I am American so my command of the English language is lacking! My partner is in the building trades, he is a cabinetmaker or joiner; so I am curious if he might be a chippie too! Thanks!!

Jerjon, you are married to a chippie. This is a term used to describe a carpenter here in the u.k.
You may also come across the following;
Spread=Plasterer
Brickie=Bricklayer
Sparks=Electrician
Con man=Plumber (only kidding )
