Hi everyone,
I promised I would keep you posted about this one: Do we still have a chance of getting a permanent residence with a child with special needs?
Well, I sent this question, together with some details about our son, to a special school in Tauranga. The kind principal was very helpfull, but he had some bad news:
| Quote: | Kia Ora: Hello:
Sorry for the slow response to your e-mail. We are currently on a six week summer holiday break.
I contacted a local Immigration Company and posed your question to them.
The bad news is that it would be very difficult if not impossible to grant permanent residency to any family given the circumstances you outlined.
You would have to face a range of Health & Character requirements...... etc etc.
What I suggest is that you e-mail to "Pam" at pam@malcompacific.co.nz
Pam would be happy to provide you with information including a questinaire that may help you.
Your dream may be a very difficult one to obtain. I hope the information I have provided here helps you.
Best wishes to you.
ps If you do visit NZ despite the problems faced please contact me at our school. I would be only too happy to show you around. |
I already e-mailed pam of Malcolm Pacific, and I hope we get our beam of light back.

I'm so sorry to hear this news Lesly. Obviously there is a lot more to these situations than meets the eye. I sincerely hope that 'Pam' can help you out. I'm sure such cases are very rare indeed and each case is probably evaluated on it's merits. Even so its still worth persevering with....even if there is only a glimmer of hope!

Actually, shop around the agents, you might get varying opinions. In some forums MP have been known to get it wrong. Yours is an issue that's worth pursuing.
Other agents can be sourced from www.nzami.co.nz

Yes, you are absolutely right about that, Karl, but we actually take a lot of risks. We sell our house before we leave, we torture our dog with the bloodtests and the quarantine, and put our children in a country were they can't understand the language and risk a learning back-log.
We are definately willing and have already descided to take those risks, but a minimum of certainty would be an enormous support!
Thanks for the encouragement |

Jamie is right these things are rarely black or white and having a consultant with the right experience could make all the difference. Suggest you circulate them with the case details and get feedback from several sources before you proceed any further.
Good Luck

Yes Jamie, I will send the same e-mail to different consultants, just to see the difference between their opinions. At first we didn't plan having a consultant, but in our case it might be the best solution.
By the way, great link , thank you.

| Not quite in the same league as Lesley's bad news, so i hope you wont mind me posting this here, but our recommended doctor from the NZIS has closed down leaving us having to travel much much further and now visting two doctors when it was previously one for both tests! AHH! - maybe this is one time a call to the rip off £1 a min line is in order to see if they have an updated list? |

It may not mean anything but someone like Malcolm Pacific will always tell you it's a difficult case etc, (not saying it isn't though..) and you won't make it in without their help...along with a large chunk of dosh... so don't necessarily be dis-heartened. Do talk to others to get some feedback..
I don't know if this relates to you but the following shows where someone would not be eligible & not be granted a medical waiver -
Applicants will not be granted a medical waiver if:
they require dialysis treatment, or a consultant physician has indicated that they will require such treatment in the immediate future; or
they have active tuberculosis (see A4.60.1 below); or
they have a mental disorder or intellectual disability that has needed care in a hospital or supervised residence for more than 90 days in the last 2 years; or
they have a physical incapacity that requires full-time care.
Have a look at the conditions of health in the operation manual, might give you some insight.
Also, if you get the general response from agents that they can help - you could assume you'll be ok as most will only take on cases they know they can succeed. If you do use an agent I'd avoid most from the Uk, NZ based agents do seem to be a lot cheaper (some might not be though).
hope it works out.. |

that is bad news lesly. you really must phone the nzis to get this clear. ian simpson posted in another thread
The National Contact Centre is pleased to announce the following services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For all questions, call the National Contact Centre on 09 914 4100 (For people calling within the Auckland toll free region), 0508 558 855 (Callers outside the Auckland toll free region).
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/Offices+and+Fees/Locations/New+Zealand/Auckland+Region/
so you would call 64 9 914 4100 to speak to an official. best of luck. |

Rodders,
Would it be the same # for me in the USA? I'm trying to call them but am getting a busy type signal.I don't know whether they are on the phone or if it's one of those things that happen when you dial the wrong number
