Thanks to you all for the support, I promise I`ll keep you all posted.
I have sent about 20 mails to different consultants in NZ so this will
certainly be continued...
Grey, those guidelines don`t relate to my son. However he does need special care, but not full-time.
And Rodders, maybe I should call them, thanks for the number. It would be the first English phonecall in my entire life! Can you imagine?
cheers, Lesly |

Dear Lesly
I was just thinking about your current situation and sympathise with the difficulties you are faced with.
I have a suggestion to make.
As you will be required to have your medicals done for each applicant, at a later stage, why dont you clear this with your panel doctor in Belgium.
One of them is
Dr Y Balon-Perin
Avenue Constant Montald, 8
1200 Brussels
Belgium
Tel: 02 7706576
The link for the NZIS approved panel doctors is
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/Migrate/Doctors/Panel+Doctors+and+Radiologists+BELGIUM.htm
If the doctor decides that your child's medical condition does not require specialist treatment that will burden the NZ health services, it will help the current dilemma that you are currently faced with
If a NZIS approved panel doctor provides the all clear, I cannot see a reason why your case will be rejected by a NZIS case officer.
all the best
Abdul |

You are right Abdul,
It's too early now to do the medicals, but that way we would have an idea of the verdict. My son would have to do the medicals over again in NZ, but it would be unfair if a doctor in NZ would have another opinion about it.
Thanks for the link. I will first let our specialist write a full report, and then I can make an appointment with one of those doctors in Belgium.
Thanks for the support, you 've been a big help!!

I just got a load of emails of several consultants , and I must say, it 's getting better! They all turn out positive!
One even says that they have never had a case declined on medical grounds.
I 'll paste one here:
We have handled many such cases as yours appears to be over the years. I can assure you that under current policies children with special needs cannot be declined for any reason other than if they are likely to "a burden on the NZ health system" which as you know is defined below. The fact that your son is not sick means he will not be a "burden" on the health system so that should not pout you off having us carry out an assessment of your chances. If he has special education needs (which is usually the case with such applicants) that is an entirely different story and is not at this time reason for an applicant to be knocked back.
I appreciate that he is also not physically incapacitated so let's carry out the formal assessment for you.
Regards
Iain MacLeod (Protea Pacific)
However all answers are positive, I will first have the medicals done in Belgium as Abdul suggested. |

| Thanks for the Doctors Link Karlsmith, my local and nearest doctors who have closed down were on that list, leaving me the problem of travelling a much greater distance - it makes me wonder perhaps the NZIS dont even know that this doctors is no more? I may be in for a longer travel to get this medical signed off, but will await the new list that comes with my recently applied for application form - does anyone know how long it takes to arrive once you have applied for an application pack? |

| Good news - our application pack has arrived and its now a case of finding that elusive doctor, any doctor since the one thats advertised on the NZIS site for our region is no more! Better start filling the thing out! - There was an ommission from the pack though in that there wasnt a form detailing the costs for applications to be processed, plus there wasnt a medical and x ray form, i had to print this off myself - i really feel it wouldnt be a hardship for them to put a copy of this form into the pack, maybe they do and i was just unlucky? |

As from today you can apply on line via the NZIS web site (info courtesy of Abdul).
This will speed things up for you but you may want to use the paper versions of the form to fill in the required details so you can work form them when you get online.
They don't put the medical or xray forms in as standard because the approved doctors usually have copies of these or they rely on you to download the appropriate forms as required. The quantity of forms required differs for every application.
Just a note of caution..don't run off and have your medicals done until you get an invitation to apply for PR as they only have a 3 month lifespan!!! I would proceed however with getting the police reports underway as these take 6 weeks to come through and are valid for 6 months. |

Thanks Karlsmith,
Great info about the forms, and useful to know that there is still some onus on the aplicant, however does your advise about not getting medicals etc done until you have the invite to apply still qualify if you are trying to applying under the family category or are you speaking from a EOI and points to migrate viewpoint?? |
