I just got off the phone with Peter at International shipping (866) 744-7007 ext 224, and was quoted $5100 door to door from L.A to Auckland for a 40' container.
I asked about shipping insurance, and he informed me that it is best to get your insurance outside from the shipping company, due to the fact that most companies that do this get a kick back from the insurer of like 33% of the figure.
Apparently many quote higher rates on insurance to make an extra buck.
I will review there contract and post later. They also will store you items for on month for free, assuming you require the extra time. |

I assume so, the number posted is toll free, call them, they pick up the tab for the phone call. The agency I called was in New York, but maybe they have locations in other places.
Raeven was quoted $8600 for the same service here in California.
Correct me if I 'm wrong Raeven. |

Hi Justin,
I am down in San Diego, and I have been more than a little confused over this shipping container issue, as we see some containers around the neighborhood now and then....do they leave the container at your house for you to fill, or does a moving truck come and take all your things to the container at the docks (like to Long Beach, I am guessing?) Still a bit cloudy on this one.
Many thanks, I enjoy your posts.

I was informed that they will bring it to my house on the back of a truck, we have three hours to fill it with this co. Afterwhich the charge by the hour.
Which means in my case I better by four Domino's pizza's and a couple of twelve packs of Heinikin. ( I guess I better make those Steinlagers)
Call a couple of buddy's and get packing.
The previous quotes I recieved were in the $8900 range.
And thank you for the compliment. |

Hi, justin,
Congrats on selling the house!! How exciting for you guys!! Ours is up for sale, lots of interest but no solid offers as yet.. it's an unusual house, so it will take a special buyer.
Thanks lots for the shipper information!! I will give them a call today and see what difference in price to ship to Nelson/Blenheim from Morro Bay.
Looking forward to your posts on the contract and insurance rates!!
You're on your wayyyyyyy!!!!
All the best, Rae |
