Hi Timbo and welcome to the forum
I think you would have to prove previous ownership of a company or running a business for at least 2 years.
Jamie Smith (LTBV experts) would be sure to put you right on this.
Good luck.

| Thanks Bill. I am using an agent in London to help with business plan etc. but they are a bit vague on certain issues. I think it is a case of not committing themselves too much. I will try Jamie smith. Cheers |

| one of the criteria for a LTBV is that you have run a business in the same type of thing previously. Don't know how they would react if you bought a franchise and went that route. |

Thanks Veronica. We have been looking into this since about July last year and have carried out a lot of research on the net and in person (in NZ). We have more or less all info. required, but just curious whether or not we would be allowed to apply from within NZ rather than from here. I have been in a similar business to that which we are looking at buying, have business plan drawn up etc.etc.etc. Just got itchy feet.

| We came here to NZ with the view to leaving uk with wife and 4 kids and having nowhere to live and no job, scary hey!!!as luck would have it i got a job offer from a christchurch company weeks before departure..., i saw advertising in the New Zealand Herald newspaper, online. I think anyone coming over here with no job of no house should take the first job they can , just as a stepping stone, you can change once here, and i have a saying , that made us come here" just remember, when you were born , you had nothing, so when you come here and risk it all, what have you got to lose and what have you got to gain...everything!! just take the leap !! you wont be disappointed..im sure |

sorry to be pedantic but surely when you go over and get a job and then get a work visa, don't you have to stay in the job you got the visa for for a minimum of two years or something? and if you want to change don't you have to start from scratch and re-apply for a work visa? I could be wrong....? |

| My wife and I will be going for it in January by the looks of it, the procedure and red tape and waiting and hoping is just too much of a nightmare when you think you can go out there, find a job, get the visa and start living your life where you want to be. |

Hubbys work visa is specifically related the company he is working for, so if he wanted to change he would have to apply for a new one. |

Just thought I would bring this up to the top again as I saw somebody looking for a job in Wellington - can't remember who it was now. Grey calls are dying too fast. I only just read it as well
| Dave & Sandra wrote: | I've got a contact in Wellington who may be able to help with your job hunting, she has contacts with recruitment agencies. Unfortunately, she can only assist if you are settling in the Wellington area. As Dave has a job in Palmerston North she can't give us official help with PR. She is American with a Scottish husband and has been really helpful to us with advice.
Below is an e-mail she sent me with her contact details.
Hi Sandra
Just so you do know what I do, I run a government pilot programme for the Wellington Region. We are the regional economic development agency for the region and our role is to help companies grow. My role is migrant attraction and settlement. I work with employers and recruitment agencies who have skills shortages and try to help locate people overseas to fit the needs. Once a migrant arrives I try to assist in their settlement. My job is funded by the different city councils in our region, , that is why I just serve Wellington.
But if you need advice, etc don't hesitate to contact me, I just can't help officially.
Cheers

My wife has a job offer at the Kidz First hospital in Manukau City AKL , and I'm a CAD Jocky for a global consultancy in M&E design. After speaking to the agencies in Auckland the're optomistic about interviews when I get into NZ.
We've accepted on offer on the house and are waiting for the buyers to sell their house, I suppose we're a little late in clearing out our junk as the move will probably take 12 weeks from the solicitors involvement to jumping on the plane.
On the permit front - we did our EoI and we're accepted but after NZIS looked further into it the claim was reduced to 55 pts as we didnt have work permits or practice certs in place. Our angle is one now of getting work permits and apply for residency whilst we're living in NZ.
Does this ring any alarm bells with anyone ? |

Hi AliJax
We have done just that we are already in situ in CHCH and arrived on a work permit.
Our eoi has been selected this week and hopefully the PR application will go through withour many hiccups
I think a lot of people were going along the same route when the points were so high. |
