Assuming that we moved to new zealand, and had a child once we were there, under current guidelines how would that affect our residency status for the family. Assuming that we are over there on a 2 year work permit.

We are a young couple, and this is not an entirely unlikely scenario.

Hi Justin and Azazel,

Your child, born in NZ, would be a NZ citizen. It would not affect the status of anyone else in your family. So if, for example, you were on a work-permit that ran out, you would still have to leave New Zealand. Your NZ-citizen child would not be able to sponsor you for residence in NZ as a parent until they themselves had become adults. You would then only be granted residence (as things stand at the moment) if the centre of gravity of your family was NZ.

Does anyone have rough costs of medical insurance whilst waiting to become residents?
Obviously the last thing we would want is a huge medical bill Smile

We are covered by my wifes company who give the option of family cover for an extra deduction from salary. Checj with your employer first to see if they have such schemes as they will get preferential rates and usually without the need for medicals. If you have to go direct her company uses Sovereign, www.sovereign.co.nz email enquire@sovereign.co.nz, policy is called major care!

Hope this helps! Nice One cool
