Hi there Moxy,
Have you tried the net for job offers, jobs section in on-line NZ papers, agencies etc.?
Do you still have your qualifications? If so, how about going to NZ on holiday for a month or so, get as many job offers as possible whilst there, (it will count for more if they can see you in person) then maybe go for WTR (I believe plumbers are on the POL, so you shouldn't have a problem).
I'm sure you won't have a problem.

Hi there, this is the catch 22 situation many people find themselves in, not many employers will offer someone a job from NZ to a person they have not met? I know if I was an a employer looking at recruiting someone I would not offer a position to someone based on a telephone call or e mail. However some people are very lucky and do it this way. My husband is visiting NZ in the next couple of months he has been in touch with recruitment consultants and firms based in NZ, we have made phone calls, sents his CV to many potential employers whom have all responded with a similar answer, basically get in touch a couple of weeks prioir to his arrival so they can set up interviews etc..
He is travelling out there hoping to gain employment but nothing is certain, this is the only way for alot of people, hope this info has helped sorry if its not very encouraging but its the road that were going down.
I do believe for a person to work as a plumber in NZ you have to be registered in NZ for this occupation (do not quote me on this, but i do believe I have read it somewhere)
Good Luck |

Dear all,
Can somebody please tell me where to find the list of "accredited" employers so that it would be easier for us to secure a work permit?
Many thanks. |

Hi Jenkins,
Went to NZ House yesterday. One of my questions related to your comment. Apparently, there is no publicised list of "accredited" employers. The reason I was given for this is that those particular employers "would be swamped with enquiries about all and sundry"! Surely I would have thought that would be a good thing. But the advisor did say that, when you apply to a prospective employer in person, they would be only to happy to let you know that they have been accredited.
Will be looking through some search engines later for "accredited companies in NZ". Will let you know how I got on.
Hope this helps in some way.

Thanks Tara,
Don't quite know why NZIS officer did not make me aware that this is on their own website!!
Great.

Rather than allowing their ignorance of the facts to be exposed, some people prefer to make things up, provided it sounds plausible. You meet them in every walk of life, the NZIS included. |

The 'accredited employers' list is solely for work to res (talent visa). It's probably employers with 'approval in principle' that you're thinking of (used for normal work visa/permits)....which there is no list of...many just apply for it as & when needed.
Moxy, a plumbing friend of ours has just been out on a job hunt mission for 2wks, came back with around 5 solid offers, so would be worth thinking about.. |
