Hi everyone! I suppose I should start with a bit of an intro. I am just finishing up a computer science degree in Halifax, Canada; I'll be done at the end of July. My girlfriend is going to be doing her PhD at the U of Otago, so I'm taking this opportunity to spend time in what seems to be a really cool country. :)
In any case, I'm trying to work out the intricacies of moving to somewhere really far away and finding somewhere to live and a job. These are difficult to come by while I'm all the way over here! I'm having some troubles understanding the whole work visa thing...it seems to me that you need to already have a job in order to get one, but no one will give you a job unless you have a visa! Needless to say, it's a little confusing. However, there is a work abroad program here in Canada that will apparently get me a 1 year work visa with no pre-arranged job, which is convenient.
Quite obviously I have many questions. If you don't mind helping out with answers, feel free to drop me an email or IM; I would love to hear from you.
I have a couple of requests to make: I'm going to be moving to Christchurch, since as far as I can tell it's the closest place to Dunedin where I might have a good chance of finding work. If anyone in Christchurch might want to make a new friend and help me get settled, I would be very happy to hear from you. :)
Also, if there is anyone from Canada (maybe even Nova Scotia) going to NZ who wants a travelling friend, I wouldn't mind that either!
There, sorry for the very long post. If you did read it all, thanks for listening!
