Hey Sym
We have a definate shortage of midwives here, you would have no problems i should imagine
When i had my first child my midwife was running between 3 of us i thought i'd be alone when the big push came....so yeah, you should be ok but expect to be busy |

Hi Sym,
I work for NHS and yes I agree with last posting that Midwives have no problems finding work in UK. They keep leaving to become health promotion specialists (all of my health promotion colleagues, apart from me, are ex midwives). There is a big litigation culture here - many of my friends who were midwives faced court cases due to problems at births which were generally not their fault but they had to appear to give evidence. Home birth is becoming more popular(it's safer too - i had my babies at home!).

Hello
You may find this site helpful: http://www.nmc-uk.org
It has a good section on people from outside the UK wanting to register to work in the UK as a nurse or midwife.

Hi Sym
Shouldn't be a problem in the UK. I'm a Registered Nurse from NZ and have been working for the NHS here for a while now. It was reasonably easy to transfer my qualifications.
I would like to point out that midwives I have come across over here hold NZ midwifery up as an example of how it should be!!! I don't know many midwives who are happy with the system over here!! Independant midwifery is a problem as insurance is so expensive most independants can't afford it - so work uninsured
