Hi Eric/Amanda

Your choice of airlines is good they have screens in the back of the headrests to watch cartoons, also carry a bag full of toys, go to 'Poundland' and buy a bagful of cheap new toys and suprise them every couple of hours with a new toy to distract them, we found 'etcha sketch' type toys were good and kept them amused. Air NZ, our choice of carrier, has gone down in my estimation and I wouldn't rush to fly with them again... a long story but suffice it to say when you book 4 tickets and two of them are for twin two year old daughters I feel you should not need to make special request for childrens meals...end result no childrens' meals for the flihts! Luckily I always travel with a box full of sandwiches and goodies for them for just such an occassion. Check you've ordered childrens meals as a special request to be sure. Invest in a bottle of 'MEDISED' from your chemist it will knock them out for a few hours if they can't sleep and it will alow you some respite. Make sure you request a block of four seats with a bassinette for the wee one. This will be on a bulk head. Make sure you arrive at the airport a good 3 hours ahead of the flight and give the kids as much physical play as they can take. We flew via LAX to maximise our bagage allowance which becomes 2 pieces per person each piece not exceeding 32kg each + up to 14 kg per person hand luggage....we managed to keep it down to a heafty 260kg out of our allowance of 312kg!! Phew I'm fitter now!! Good luck and have a safe and pleaseant journey.....ours was a real trial but we managed it! cool Tip...Expect the worse and be happy with anything better! Nice One Nutcase

Thanks Karl & Dan-ish for your advice.

I have contacted MAF about baby milk and this is the response I got.

Private consignments of milk based foods for infants may be imported
from any country provided that the following requirements are met:

i. The product shall be commercially packaged.

ii. The product shall be accompanied by an infant (i.e. accompanying
passengers).

iii. (NB: up to three made-up milk based food in bottles may accompany
an infant.)

I hope this helps anybody else unsure what to do.

Amanda

Hi Karl and Tanya, Smile thanks for the response on baby food most helpful, that is one thing now I can relax about!! not been on the forum for a couple of days been busy working and seeing to the kids no time to stop TYPICAL life here in the UK!! My husband is booking his flight in a couple of weeks to NZ, I am seriously thinking about travelling out there with him with the kids and just hoping things will go to plan with employment? I know its a risk but you have to take them in life, nothing is plain sailing! The house is sold should be completed in next couple of weeks will be moving in with family until June, and if things do go to plan and I travel out once he is there, is will not be a great journey for me with 3 kids alone!! I might end up leaving one of them in Singapore or all of them!! So might be in NZ sooner rather than later!! Smile Thanks again

Hi Karl, first, congrats on making it, hope all is going well.

Second, as someone who has made the move to Auckland, what do you think is a good or reasonable salary to live on in Auckland.

Many thanks in advance Smile

Where do I start...how long is a piece of string? Supply and demand sums it up! A tertiary qualified junior manager should be able to attract a NZ$60-70K on average some IT salaries can go higher, Directors NZ$90-150K. An average across the board estimate about NZ45K bearing in mind that applicants accepted from the EOI pool are generally highly skilled/qualified/experienced. Further info on salaries and demographics is available from the dept of stats I think! If you have specific areas of employment and want further info, post me!

Karl Nice One

Hi Karl....

Thanks for that info..... I was just after a ball park figure of an average salary for a decent standard of life that's all. I know Auckland is the most expensive area so I just wanted to know what to aim for.

Hi Karl,

Yes, I got the 6-8 weeks' quote as well. I guess they're probably progressing this last lot of selected EOIs fairly slowly at the moment so that they don't have to make decisions on them before the new quota kicks in in July.

Still, that's not long away now :o)

Good luck,

Evelynne
