I was wondering if they exist in N.Z. In the U.S for about $150. A"Certified" inspector will go over the house from top to bottom and write up a list of any noticed defects.
The last guy I used had a great tool that could detect the prescence of moisture in walls, used to detect water leaks from sinks ect...
I kind of hope they don't. It could be a good buisness opportunity. |

A number of ex-builders advertise their expertise here. There are also a pile of adverts for building inspectors in the Yellow Pages.
I am not sure if they need to be part of any trade organisation though.
The trouble is, if there is no trade body (and hence no insurance) you would have little hope of recourse if their work was inadequate and you lost out as a result. |

They all say...cant sue me if I get it wrong...but they are about $300 plus.
Most are ex builders...I would get one done. At least you know if things have been permited etc, and what needs fixing by the vendors before you buy the place etc
