Wondered if anyone is familiar with the Hibiscus coast?
We're moving from a quaint wee village in Yorkshire to the Hustle and Bustle of Auckland. Someone recommended that we look into the Hibiscus coast as it's meant to be a good location for my husband to commute to work in Auckland and have good schools. However, looking at the map it seems to be quite far from central Auckland. I read that in fact it is only a 20-30min drive, but i've experienced Auckland traffic and I don't beleive this for one second. If anyone knows this area can you help?? Cheers all |

You're right not to believe it Rebecca. Unfortunately the driving time is quoted off-peak. So if your hubby works off-peak hours then the commute will take just half an hour or so. If hubby works more normal hours count on him sitting in a 2 or 3 mile tailback to even get onto the harbour bridge and then further traffic hassle once he's crossed it.
Having said all that a house up on the peninsula overlooking an uncrowded beach is a dream come true for a lot of people they just put up with the commuting. |

John's right,
I used to live in Browns Bay, among other places, and worked in Onehunga my commute back in the early 90's could be as much as 1 hour 30 mins then..I moved eventually.
We are returning to the North Shore this year but we have work in Glenfield north of the bridge so we should be OK. Where is your husband working? Is it in the CBD?
Hibiscus coast is indeed a wonderful place to live but if you go too far down you will queue to get onto the highway...a double whammy!!! Be careful to research this before you buy or you will trade one rat race for another!

Thanks for the info.
My Husband is in I.T so we imagine that when he gets a job it will be in central Auckland. We appreiciate that we can't escape the traffic but it's just so frustrating when you're sat in it.
Also, Lovely as Hull is (?) the quaint wee Yorkshire village is about 15 mile from Hull, it's just the nearest place anyone will have heard of.
(Cars are fairly new to Hull, we all zoom around in Fishing trawlers). |
