Selection point now 115. Who would have thought it would happen this fast?
I read a thread suggesting that maybe the govt is lowering the selection point to increase the numbers coming in, so housing prices stay up, voters stay happy, and govt wins reelection. Any thoughts on that and the likelihood that the selection point will continue to drop in late Aug and Sep?
Seems as if there are not THAT many people at the 110, 105, and 100 marks if you look at the graph in the latest selection report. About 500 in each category. And of course they took over 1000 EOIs this time around, about double the usual number.
Has me wondering whether they are now worried about not making the yearly target if they do not start letting more people in.
Thoughts, anyone? |

You can never be too sure - I but I agree with you. I wouldn't be surprised to see the next selection point at 105. Remember that anyone who joined the pool at the start of the year will get lapsed on the 4th of September anyhow - so the pool will go down greatly when they go! I believe a political decision has been made to try and get as many people selected out of the pool as possible before this occurs (possibly fearing they wont renew).
Just a thought, but we'll all know in a couple of weeks.

| This might be a silly comment and I think I've made it elsewhere but it should not be inconceivable that the points drop down to 100. At the end of the day, this is the minimum points requirement and the stage at which they take applications. If everyone on 100 points pays their money to submit an application they should have evry right to expect consideration. So, to those with 100 points, don't give up hope, you deserve consideration. |

Yes, why take money from peeps with 100 points if they wont even get a look in, my guess is selection levels will drop again, but not sure if it will in two weeks, i reckon loads of applications will go in now, so it could still take a while for the EOI to drop again, but i'm sure it will eventually and who cares for what reason this is happening, political or otherwise, it's great news for us
