Hi there. First of all let me say what a great forum this is.period.

Here's my story. I met my New Zealand girlfriend just under a year ago.We have been travelling/working for the last year. However her travel visa has now expired and I have to returnto my studies. So we had to return home. Which for her is Auckland and for me is the UK (my parents moved here from South Africa while I was travelling). Basically we want to live together, sooner rather than later, and both think that it should be in NZ. I will be finished with my IT training within 4 months

Here's my question, even though I have numerous IT quailifications, I wont have any "experience". How does that effect my chances of getting a work visa before I get to NZ? I have read a number of replies saying that you should just travel over (visa waiver program) and try to get a job and visa while in the country. Do I have any other options?

Any direction would be most appreciated.

Welcome Charl,

We are thinking of going down the same route as yourself. Visit NZ (probably late next year) and whilst there, look for employment. We are lucky that my sister is there (has been in NZ for 31 years, currently living in Auckland) and we'll be able to stay with her whilst in NZ, saving lot
One other way, of course, is to get your girlfriend to reurn to the UK and take the plunge - get married! Nutcase

Thanks for the reply Bill.

After your advise and reading a few more forums, I think I am pretty sure I will head over on 'holiday' and see what I can do.

As for the marriage thing, well, it could happen. ( hope my girlfriend isnt reading this Mr. Green
