Hey John - just had a thought - have you looked to see if there are any IT support franchises you could invest in ???
I seem to remember that this is another route worth investigating...

Moorf,
yes, we're sort of looking at it already and after this afternoons disapopintment with working out my points tally we may need to peruse this avenue in more detail. thanks for your links they are very usefull.
Does anyone know the quick version to owning/buying a ready established NZ business or franshise and what i need to qualify. |

Hi Rimbo
This isn't really a positive response for you but just to let you know. My husband got his job offer because we were in NZ for his interviews and he was able to return pretty quickly. He flew back to NZ a month later after giving notice at work, leaving me here to sort out the house etc. When he applied for his work permit he had to supply certified copies of his quals before his permit could be issued, so you really need to have a recognised qualification. They managed to show he was on the OSL (occupational shortages list) in Wellington, although he's not actually working in Wellington - his company has another office there.
The problem with the business is that you have to have had experience of running a business previously and that the business is related to what you have previously done. You can't buy a corner shop for example if you have no experience of having run one before. If you can find something in IT then that might help.
Hope this helps to channel your enquiries a bit more. Sandra |

Cheers Sandra,
Sounds like you and Dave have done what we are trying, only a lot more succesful at the moment. Susan was going to stay here and sell the house if i secured a job and join me when i've made a new home there... easy!!!
Yes the Franchise side of things or buying a business will be looked into a litlle more closely. We already realise that it needs to be IT related and i'm currently sweeping the classifieds for this kind of plan.

Hi,
Just a thought, but have you maybe considered putting of going to NZ for a bit and maybe getting a qualification like a HNC? According to the NZIS, a HNC in certain subjects (e.g. Busines, Computing) will give you 50 points.
Anyway I expect you want to get going with all this, but it's just an idea to consider. Good luck whatever you decide to do |

Suggestion for EIO.
Go to NZ to find a job. If you have enough work experience in NZ, bonus points will be awarded to you (5 pts for 2yrs, etc.) Additonal points is given if work experience is in an identified future growth area, identified cluster or area of absolute skills shortage. By the time you have enough work experience, I'm sure the points system is already normalized. |

Cheers,
but is that still the case?
ITANZ used to help get IT people moved over by just doing that. they would convert work experience into quals (so to speak) and recomend to NZIS you for a Visa. Apparently this finished some time after Jan this year.
can anyone else confirm this? |

I can send you the job section out of the chch press if this helps??!!
What about the accredited employees list? I have a copy on a word doc (you need abode reader) if you want to take a look at which companies are on it? (you might already have done that...probably another name for it...not too big on visa's/agencies I am afraid..email me so I can send it to you if you want it)
The newspaper offer is still valid though!!!

If you're looking into doing a LTBV (your own business) try
www.benz1.com ther's a forum you might find useful
and also Jamie Smith, who is a business adviser who comes on the forum sometimes (he's moving at the moment, so might take him a few days to catch up) Good luck
