In the NZ news this morning there are lots of reports of calls for Immigration Minister Lianne Daziel to resign.

It's nothing to do with the new SMC system, but her handling of the deportation of a Sri Lankan girl.

Just what we need...

She's actually one of the better ones we've had, most of her predecessors were fairly useless.

Have to separate out immigration policy from marketing of the service - I have few beefs about latest policy and intent, but it's a real cow to market because of high uncertainty inherent in system (beef, cow, geddit? Laughing ).

The marketing and communications side have been very poorly handled, on the one hand where migrants stand, and on other hand with employers who can offer jobs.

As these two aspects are both c*cked up, of course we have present anger and frustration.

NZIS are picking up on a few of our ideas, such as explanation of why this dip's points are low, setting up a trends page for historic passmarks so you can see which cycles are happening etc, but it's a long slow grind to get marketing skills into a Govt department, I'm picking 2 years before SMC and NZ really hums in the marketplace again. Minimum.

Until then, expect numbers to be low and points mark to get down to about 110-120 by June/July.

Hi Jamie,

Once again, thanks for all your feedback - it has been much appreciated. I hear what you're saying about the marketing of the new system. Too true!

I think though that it has the potential to be a good system once it beds down. It's just tough on those of us who are the guinea pigs!

Yep Confused

I dread to think what the consequences might be for the SMC. Surely her successor won't mess around with it?

Main issue is does he UNDERSTAND it, many don't. And doing nothing is not what we need....

People who recently submitted their EOI will expire ( 3 months ) by the time you mentioned above. Sounds like an encouragement to reapply for people who are in the same points bracket.

Yes, but I think before re-applying the EOI again, it's better to get a better point marks as well...cause spending $350 NZ is not that cheap... Sad Hmmm

Agree, thats a lot of groceries ( as my wife sayz ). So its better to continually pursue oppurtunities for higher points. Have a draft EOI ready.. at least for those who file online.
