Hello all.
I am an Instrument Designer currently working in the petrochem industry.
I notice that Instrument Design Technician is currently list on the occupation shortage list, but after thorough searches of the web, I cannot find any job vacancies. Is this normal ?
I am married with 4 children, and we are looking to emigrate to New Zealand. Haven't yet decided on a location yet, as I was waiting to see what the job market had to offer. I didn't really want to consider Australia, but may have to give it try if there are no suitable jobs.
Many thanks for any help.

I suggest you send your details directly to the petroleum companies personnel departments. All the big names have head offices in Wellington including Caltex, Shell, BP, Exxon etc. Check out the NZ yellow pages for addresses or the web for email addresses. If they can't help directly they may be able to put you in touch will ancillaryservice companies who support the petroleum industry. I don't know which type of intruments you are referring to so my advice is a bit broad. You can also try SGS Redwood petroleum division in Wellington or via the SGS NZ head office in Auckland where I used to work. They are registered with NZIS so if they can offer you a job you can join the work to residence programme and short cut the whole PR business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
