We seek them here, we seek them there.........
Seriously. We need opinions views etc on internet cafes.. all aspects. We might set one up over there as an ancillary income. The ones we have seen on the net look a bit gloomy.. we called them seedy on another place and ppl concentrated muchly on that and not on the overall thread.
How can these places make money.. not lots, but a living, at $3 an hour?
What "extras have you seen, or would you want as a customer..
All your thoughts and ideas are welcome |

There are several net cafes in Christchurch. they seem to cater to students and tourists, also offering very low-priced word-processing facilities. The food is not dear either (cafe food in Ch Ch seems to be very cheap on the whole even taking low local wages into account) so don't count on making too much there either.
I suspect the gloom is meant to be 'atmospheric' in some cases and is related to the cheap premises behind other shops that seem to be the norm in others.
Internet access here is very cheap at home though. I pay $15 for 150 hours (there are cheaper) dial up with no call charges (free local calls) so there is no incentive to pay even $3 to use the cafe.
The only local one I would consider using was in the ch ch arts centre, and although dimly lit, does at least appear clean and is in a very useful location.
Another thought - there are a lot of shops here. Loads. Zillions. There is cut-throat competition in many areas so this may explain the low prices.
Best of luck anyway! perhaps someone from a more rurual location could comment as this may offer a niche for a net cafe? |

hmmm...
Your post is the kind of impression we had and have.
But, having said that, there are cafes and they are making money.. not stacks, but enough..
More research.
We will be in a smaller town.
Think much of the trade will be tourist season, holiday makers etc.
Will locate in the main shopping space.... catch people literally as they walk by.
have several ideas for extra strings, as it were...
But still searching and researching...
Can't have too many thoughts/ideas. |
