I think is depends on what type of work you are looking for. Is it possible that an employer will be happy to give you a phone interview, and then offer you a job. Hubby is a welder, and for that type of job we felt it was better to go over for a month, see if we liked it and apply for jobs there.

Good Luck

Yes it is possible but quite doubtful.
When applying for jobs most Agencies or employers always come back at you with "see you when you get here" which basically means. We're not putting you foward for this job or sending on your CV until you are in the country. It's a two way thing, my experience is, that i have to do my bit before they will do thiers. So i have eventually realsied that networking on forums such as this and talking to agencies is just the starting point. Talking to agencies??
Yes, phone them up at 11 o'clock at night (UK time) as a follow up call to enquire whether they have recieved your CV. after these initial talks they take you a little more seroiusly. then buy a plane ticket and meet with them, buy them coffee and get some interviews lined up. If your lucky, you'll land a job, you come home tell your boss what to do and break the news to your parents!
Sounds easy doesn't it? This is what i'm now in the process of doing. I was planning to come out in September but i've hit a few more stumbling blocks, big ones! Even with a job offer i don't have enough points for EOI. So maybe i'll come over anyway and look to getting a WTR Visa. But i'm still not sure on the criteria for that yet.

Do you have enough points for EOI or like me, do you need a firm offer of employment?
Are you below the age of 30 and therefore can go over on a working holiday (i Think!)? - i'm too old!
Are you employed in skilled work in an area that is required in NZ ie Medical, IT, Rocket Scientist?
If you've got enough points for EIO you could submit that and just move over. some people on this forum are doing just that.

Hope this helps with your quest, sorry if its a little negative, but it is my opinion based on what i found last year and recently.

John.

Current EOI pass mark is 140. This can change each month, so next month it could be 130 or 150 depending on how many they let through this month. I think at the moment the new policies brought in at the end of last year are having a negative effect on the amount of successful applicants. this is why they are now lowering the pass mark. go to
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ to find out exactly your EOI value.
here there is information on other ways to become a migrant, its just very difficult taking it all in! Nutcase

Don't despair, you are young enough to go over on a working holiday.
You can always take the Work to residence route like have to.
You can post an EOI providing you have more than 100 points, after 3 months i believe it gets thrown out though and you have to re-apply again.
Keep beavering away at this forum, i am learning so much from all these people that you and i have got so much in common with.

Also sounds to me like you want to take the safest option. Find a job over the net, get a telephone interview, get accepted and then pack your job in here and go over. You can't have 4 weeks off work to go over on a recky and you certanly don't want to give up work based on this dream and just move over looking for work. Does that sound like you?

me too, but like i said before, its took alot of work to get me to realise that it just doesn't happen very often. alot of the people on this forum have taken or are taking the chance, they are moving over with family after selling thier property over here, then looking for a job. Most have the EOI bit sticthed up though.

Good luck.

John.

Hi Karo
If its what you want to do you will find a way, trust in your abilitys and skills, do the investigation to be sure it what you want, then go for it.

I went over for 7 day, not long enough but was able to get a job/business offer and a good feel for the country.

Good Luck
