Wow, the NZIS site is so confusing! Looks like I have more stupid questions
I am under the assumption that a job search visa and a "limited purpose" visa are the same thing, due to the fact that I did a site search for "job search visa" and came up with nothing...
I am also under the understanding that US residents are exempt from having to have this visa in order to stay for 3 months or less, so does that mean that my husband could go down there and look for a job on a visitor's permit? And if he were to find one, what would happen next?
What if we were both to travel there as visitors and undertake a job search? How likely is it that we could find non-OSL employment with an employer that had or was willing to undertake the process of an Approval in Principal, seeing as how my husband has welding and CAD technician experience (no formal qualifications,) and I would probably be looking for a job in retail or hospitality (no formal qualifications?) How likely would the NZIS be to accept said AIP? |

There is no Job Search Visa as such anymore.
There's nothing to stop you going over as visitor's to look for work although you have to remember that your primary intention is for a holiday, for arrival purposes, so perhaps don't mention your real motive. While on holiday there's nothing to stop you looking for work, as long as you don't actually start.
You don't need a visa if coming from US, you'll be given 3mths on arrival. If you want to stay longer you can apply to do so.
Certainly the best option looking for work. Hard to say how easy you find the actual search, might find it better looking at the welding side, but don't know how you'll find it without quals. I know a welder who got an offer without even going there, but he was qualified.
If he's skilled he might be able to blag it? Worth a go.
Be prepared in case it doesn't work out, but at least you'll have a great holiday! |

Thanks for the answers :)

Exactly what I thought!
Another question, though...do you think that NZ strip clubs would have permission to hire (or be able to satisfy NZIS's AIP req.,) forigners? If so, would that be enough of a "job offer" to get a work visa?
BTW, what does "blag" mean (i know...I'm a dumb yankee) |

Blag = slang for:- liying, telling a porky, an untruth, using the gift of the gab, talking your way out of difficult situation, bullshit etc....
Strip clubs..... don't know if they can or can't but most of the Auckland ones are in and around the K'road (Karangahape Road) and Welligton has a fair few!! |

Ok, spill what you know about the Welly ones...are they nice or trashy? What are the touching rules?
Rules about that kind of stuff vary from state to state here, so I'm assuming that they do there, too. I was on a site for an Auk. one last nite called "The White House," and it said that customers can touch above the waist at the dancer's invitation only. Clearly, working there is not for me, lol:) |

| The last time I was in one was 10 years ago in Wellington entertaining overseas clients, The Pink Pussycat I seem to remember!!! Can't say about the touching rules....in those days you didn't have to read a contract before you went in and most of what was on display you wouldn't want to touch anyway!!!! It was mostly stage stuff. Best get in touch direct if you're not sure! In the early nineties they were pretty trashy joints all over. If stripping/exotic dancing is your thing you're probably better looking at higher class clubs and visit a few to see what goes on!!!! I really am no expert on this one!!!! |

LOL, thx again for the info (didn't mean to get ya all flustered )
And yes, I would only want to deal with the higher class establishments...I'm not a trashy kind of girl, if you know what I mean (look, but don't touch!)
I have done a bit of research, and looked at a few of the clubs' sites, and I have to say that I'm a little frightened by the fact that alot of these places have beds and bathrooms in their "private dance" areas...here, a US$25.00 private "VIP" dance lasts one song, and is done in a room containing multiple sofas and a big floorman! Which leads me to my next query...
Is prostitution legal anywhere in NZ? If so, then even the ladies who are just "dancers" would probably be willing to go farther than I, which would kill any chance of my being able to compete with them cleanly. |

Hi Ya,
Prostitution is now legal in NZ but I obviously don't know on what basis or where....perhaps you could ask the minister for tourism travel and prostitution ha! ha!
On a more serious note you are right to be put off by this fact.
I think you will agree that it in as inescapable truth that prostitution and exotic dancing/stripping are found shoulder to shoulder the world over!
I certainly didn't mean to imply you were a 'trashy' girl I just mentioned trashy clubs to warn you off!

Oh, no! I didn't take it that way! It's all good, and thx for the warning
Good to know, though, that prositution is legal...even though it kinda scraps my idea of using something I know (dancing,) to get the ever sought after J/O.
Also, I do know what you mean about dancing and prositution going hand in hand. It's that way here too. Nevada is the only place that the latter is legal, but it's disguised as an "outcall escort service" or "massage parlor" practically everywhere else. Sad, really. I like to believe that striptease is a bona fide art form...the way I do it, at least |
