Hello all, and many thanks for all your encouraging comments on this site.
After waiting for absolutely ages for a suitable vacancy to come along in NZ, I saw something the other day, applied and it seems following a phone chat that the potential employer is interested in taking my application to an interview stage. Good on him, if he's reading. He won't regret it.
From long experience it's hard finding work offshore, and it's rare that any employer will touch you. Nonetheless, it's important not to be put off...
Now, I have an EOI in the pool but it's one of those that expires in early June. With a job offer I would have c. 185 points (it's outside Auckland & I think in an "identified growth area"); currently I have just 120.
How likely is it, if this whole caper comes off and I get offered the job (I'm one of 12 candidates... hmm) that I would be able to change my EOI details, get them to hoick me out of the pool and on my way to residency by the beginning of June?
Or would I have to reapply, thereby losing valuable time?
Is there a middle way (a work visa of any sort) that I could take up temporarily? Or would I have to rely on the good graces of this so-far star employer in leaving the post open for long enough to get the red tape cut. I think he'd be prepared to wait until July max.
Does anyone know?
Many thanks & best wishes to all.

This may not be any use to you, but we have given up on submitting an eoi from the UK. My husband will be in NZ at the end of may doing Interviews and once he has an offer of employment we will leave the UK on a work Visa and apply from NZ for residency.
We figure that this is the best option otherwise it will take forever its hard work to get all the timing right, but im sure it will be worth it in the end. |
