Can anyone advise where to get good information on this.

Agencies are evasive and basically I need to find out how realistic my application would be, how I can improve it, timescales etc.

Any help or contact links appreciated.

Hi ed,

If you care to say a little bit more about what you're doing, I can offer some thoughts on LTBV applications.

You could try emailing/phoning the LTBV place in Wellington where they assess the visas. We did that and found them helpful. But you do have to have a solid business plan with all the gubbins like set up costs, forecasts, etc. cheers Veronica

Thanks for your replies.

I am a therapist and want to open a complementary health clinic.

I would have investment money for the clinic as well as living expenses.

It would employ a manager and part time staff as well as offering clinic space for rent for different therapists so would be useful for local employment.

I can get a solid business plan together with my accountant by closely modelling a UK business and then collating all the corresponding costs etc.

Putting the plan together should be fine but I am concerned about what NZ business knowledge is being looked for, how much investment is being looked for etc.

Without a degree of confidence that it would be successful, all other plans such as selling up (which could clearly take a while) can't really happen.

Do you think the LTBV place in Wellington would be able to say, Yes that looks fine or 'you need more capital' etc?

there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule such as the amount of capital as long as it fits your business plan, and your business plan doesn't have to be for big business, you can put in a very modest plan and show how you anticipate it could grow..
We did our own business plan and got it checked by one of the agencies, it cost £1000 for them to tell us it was fine but it did give us reassurance we were on the right track. Will tell you the name of the agency we used as we found the cost varied tremendously. (One of the agencies told us that 98% were turned down and we hadn't a hope just on the basis of me saying we had done our own plan. But Pete is a really good management accountant and I now my own trade so I knew it was solid )
As to research the best thing is to go over there and have a look, if you can't do that there is a tremondous amount of info on the web, and any organisations that govern/control your industry will probably give you information. I can only speak from our own experience but the Nzis is helpful, they do want people over there. good luck Veronica

Thanks Veronica

How do you manage to get in touch with NZIS to speak to someone?

Hi all

I usually monitor other immigration forums and saw someone's post to here. We specialise in LTBV, so I thought I'd add my two cents to this topic if that's OK. Our website holds our profile, I'll try to be non-commercial here.

This fits LTBV policy as long as you have ownership/control of similar business in the past, minimum of 2 years.

Yes, enough for the clinic establishment, working capital, and up to $90k NZ for living are guidelines.

This is helpful in terms of benefit to NZ.

The NZIS specs are a bit different to standard business plans in NZ, and Uk plans...

It is reasonably expected that you have done research in NZ or have engaged NZ consultants to do separate and detailed research on your behalf. NZIS struggle to understand that people want to migrate and do business in countries they have never been to.

Best advice is not to sell up until the case is approved, or at least showing signs it would be ie several months after lodgement. The current management team in NZIS Business Migration Branch in Wellington don't really like it when applicants say "hurry up, or I'll lose the deal on the house/business".

It's possible and depends on getting a good case officer to provide pre-lodgement advice, and they don't always do this. Surely your UK consultant would be able to calculate something like capital requirements.
There are other sources of info open to you : www.benz1.com and www.uk2nz.co.uk are similar forums to this.
We can also help you with a free consultation.
Best of luck.
