Hi all,

Looking at the figures announced in todays SMC Pool statement, do you think it's unrealistic to expect the points to fall much between now and say mid May?

They say that they are expecting to make 479 visa decisions between now and the end of June financial year.

They also add

Since the last selection, NZIS has issued the first Invitations to Apply under the SMC. Early indications are that customers who have received an invitation are likely to submit an Application more quickly than we had originally anticipated. As a result we have revised our projections of the number of selections downwards, in order to avoid exceeding our target for decisions. We have decided to keep the selection point at 185, and therefore select fewer EOIs than at the last selection. However, we remain on target to make 479 decisions in this financial year

First draw we had 126 EOIs selected, second draw we had 255 selected and today we had just 84. This totals 465, even allowing for dropouts and rejects (say about 1/3 so 310). This does not leave many more spaces for the next few draws. Add to this that there were apparently 84 more EOIs with high points added in the last fortnight, I can't see the points dropping by much at all over the next few draws.

If anyone has any other take on this, please share!

Good luck all,

Evelynne

That's 479 visa decisions, and as you realise there will be a drop out between EOI pulls and final decisions, but there will also be a time lag. Reading between the lines in NZIS documents it loos like they're expecting it to take 2 to 3 months to process a pulled EOI to a final decision.

I wonder if things will improve when the current backlog of general skills applications is dealt with? I understand that it was quite large and could account for the very small number selected at first and the correspondingly high points requirement.

Hi All, cool

Kevin is right...a "decision" means that the EOI was pulled, an invitation extended, an application received, processed, approved and completed. They'll certainly need to have many more than the 479 goal in the processing stage to keep things moving.

Robert's right too, they do claim to have quite a backlog of IGSC applications to complete. However, they had quite a bit of "down time" as they closed that category mid November and didn't begin pulling SMC applications until the end of February. (Of course not a lot gets done around the holidays.)

So in answer to Evelynne's question...yes I agree, it doesn't appear they will be increasing their workload a great deal during these first three months of the SMC pool period. A majority of applicants will be dropped without ever being considered. They will certainly begin pulling higher numbers (there were 260 EOI's with 180 points alone this time). But it will be the "cream of the crop".

My guess is...and it is just a guess...that anyone with 170 points or less will not have their EOI see the light of day by June and will have to reapply. Sad

It's not all doom and gloom, but much less positive than all of us had hoped for. No

Hang in there everyone and let's pray and keep fingers crossed that things improve quickly! Smile
