anyone with experience of Masterton ? Job market ? General feel of area ? Good points / bad points ?

Unfortunately i know little of Masterton, but wanted to reply as your post has gone unanswered and possibly the fact that i am a fellow Imp. 
I have just fished out my old copy of the lonely planet and it tells me the population is around 23,000, fair sized but not particularly exciting, that maybe just one persons opinion though, it also says the main attraction would be a sheep sheering competition held annually, i get the feeling the writer at least thought little of Masterton. 
You may already be aware of this info by now though.
