Medical and Dental Records

I was just reading the NZIS website in what personal documents to bring with you, and it recomends that you bring medical and dental records.

To be honest I just thought this was not a possibility to have records transferred internationally, but they are recomending it.

Eric phoned our Doctors surgery, whose response was that it was not necessary and they just needed to know when we were leaving! Didn't quite get the answer we were looking for!!

So, what are everybody else's experiences etc. Does a NZ GP/Dentist request these records, and they get sent internationally, or is that it, no medical history taken with us?

Unless you have a fairly complicated history or a chronic illness then the records will be of very little value in the future. Most GPs here would not be particularly interested, especially as there is no requirement for you to see any particular GP or to see any GP twice.
It is advantageous to register with a single GP and use them most of the time though as you do get consistency that way.

Copies of your records may well come in handy if you consider applying for any health or income protection insurance so it is probably worth getting copies of your records to bring, even if they are likely to sit unused. It is very difficult to get this information after you have left!

I was told by my dentist (UK) that it was no point taking your dentist records as a new dentist will start again...

as for medical records i am not sure but would think it would be wise if you can sorry..
