| I am looking for anyone who has been selected from the Pool and has had their medical certificate reviewed. I am hoping you will share your experiences with how hard of a time NZIS gave you over anything disclosed in your medical history. Are routine medical problems okay (such as pet allergies/low-level asthma), or will they give you a difficult time no matter how serious or not serious the condition is? I don't want to get disqualified because of minor conditions, but I know we must disclose everything or face rejection if the condition is discovered. Anyone been through the same thought process and/or have any experiences with NZIS to share? |

We've just had ours done in the UK and the Dr said that the main points for NZIS at the moment are TB for adults and Eyesight, joints and hearing for kids.
I've known someone with diabetes and someon esle with asthma to be granted pr so I don't think that common ailments are anything to worry about.
Just answer the questions and don't offer any additional information of you are worried. I'm not a smoker but the Dr said that NZIS do not discriminate even if you are!!!!
Lots of people get hung up on their BMI score. I think the health range is below 25. Even if your BMI is way over they simply ask you to take a glucose test to rule out diabetes. If your BMI is high and not accompanied with any other ailment you should be fine.
We all found the medicals to be fine, but they're never nice.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

A friend of mine who is a secondary teacher has been talking of moving to NZ since i've told her of my plans. she lives/works in London (hence wanting to move to NZ!!). She has had depression in her late teens (who didn't get depressed as a teenager!!) and said that she understood that anyone who has had mental health problems in the past would have problems getting through the medical especially if they had been hospitalized (as she had).
Anyone got any light to shed on that (maybe immigration won't care - they are so desperate for secondary teachers in NZ)
thanks, charley |

Reading the posts on medicals has led me to ask if anyone has or knows anyone with underactive thyroid, we have just been filling in the online eoi while we wait for quals to be assessed and I filled in the section to state that I have this condition which basically means that I take a tablet everyday does anyone think this will be aproblem as obviously I will have to continue with this once (hopefully) in NZ. It doesn't cause me any problems now and hopefully not in the future either.
Any advice welcome.

OK Guys
I really am not an authority on this but C3 on the EOI states
C3 Do you have a mental disorder, or intellectual disability that has needed care in a hospital or supervised residence for more than 90 days in the last 2 years:
- i.e have you been sectioned under the Mental Health Act lately?
C6 Are you receiving, or have you recieved, any treatment for any psychiatric condition or developmental disorder.
- Depression is not a psychiatric disorder - schizophreina, manic depression and bi-polar disorder are.
Hope this helps

Yeah I know, but that's me - lots of comedians suffer from depression so I guess I'm in good company... and I did love Spike!
Seems to work that way - most of my friends would never know as I'm the loud one with the mad laugh
I've been off the pills for a few months now... |

Does allergies count here?
Ma wife is so sensitive to crustaceans ( spelled right? ).. ya know the crab, the shrimp, the likes.
She usually takes anti-allergin pills whenever she gets to eat it. Coz she just loves them. |

A friend of mine who has had these is under medication. The last time
he had was in early 2002. Since then no encounters
Will he fail his medical ?
Isn't he suppose to declare this on the EOI?.

Hi all
I am soon to be married and have three children(6,8,10) We are considering moving to New Zealand within the next twelve months.
We have been reading posts with intrest, and have come to the conclusion that nz is the place for us.
Things were all looking positve until I read the post about medicals, in particular, for children. My eldest has asthma (thankfully less of a problem now he is older) which I have been lead to believe should not be an issue. My youngest daughter however is hearing impaired. She has had tests which show it will not get worse but it will not get any better. She wears hearing aids and uses a radio aid for school. Can anybody give me further information.
With thanks
Sarah |

from what i've read it appears to be current and ongoing costly health conditions (AIDS/HIV, TB, cancer etc.) that would be real problems as they would incur a large cost to the health system. Virtually everyone has some health condition lurking in their past or causing minimal problems currently so I wouldn't have thought mild asthma to be a problem (not that i'm an immigration expert -far from it... i'm learning all the time from you lot!!)
