Come with me on a journey!! Started the medical test trip today...
- Telephoned local Panel Dr from list found in the Toolbox on the Immigration site (thanks Michelle )
- Medical booked for 23 August
- Advised we need to bring the medical forms with us ... AH, we say, we haven't received any forms... ... advised that they can be downloaded from Immigration website... found them at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/workandlivepermanently/howdoiapply/ (go to the Forms and Guides links on right hand side and then "More Forms and Guides" - see Medical Xray Forms....
- Printed them and we're off on 23rd
Costs quoted: £90 each for medical including blood test / £45 each for Xrays
Figured we would get these started - I realise they are only valid for 3 months but the reassurance that they are in the pipeline is, at the moment, worth a potential duplicate cost in 3 months if application still ongoing...
Does anyone know what they are looking for in these medicals? |

Look at the form and they go through each section with you, If you answer yes to anything they will quiz you more and then maybe ask for reports from your GP. There is a blood test for Syphilis, a urine sample so don't pee before you go. They check your skin for marks, moles scars etc. Check your hearing, eyesight, listen to your heart etc. Check your flexibility, touch your toes etc. Mine took about an hour. I do believe men have to ..... cough ! Oh and they check your BP, just as well mine wasn't on tuesday !!!
You need to take passport and passport photos for both the medical and the X ray along with the appropriate form
I had my X ray done the week before the medical that way the report gets back to the GP in time for your medical.
The most painful part is paying.

We had our medicals done in June...very quick and painless. You need to get the X-Ray done before you go to the panel Doctor for your medical appointment.
Urine, blood tests and eye tests first with the practice nurse.
It takes about 20-30 minutes per person, and our Doc just went through the questions, and we answered Yes or No. Not particularly demanding, and seemed to be done entirely on trust (E.g. he didn't have our medical notes with him if he had wanted to check our answers).
Then get your kit off (no grey baggies ladies, best boxers for the chaps!), a few "hands-on" checks (height, weight, a bit of prodding here and there, yes...coughing, reflex tests)...job done. |

The coughing I can cope with, what I don't like is;
1. The blood test - its not the needle being stuck in me, its the thought that they are sticking something in me for the purposes of taking something out (shudder!)
2. Boys only again - if they want to feel the prostate. Rubber glove time and clench those teeth!!!!!!!!!!!
It just had better be worth it.

There is somebody in York but I dont have the details, we used Bupa at Elland for the CXR and Lindley Group practice in Huddersfield.
The York details are on the NZ immi web site, If you need Huddersfield let me know.
We paid £50 for the CXR and £80 for the medicals.
No problems getting the CXR but quite a wait for the medical
