Hi all
Would anyone know the cost of medicals, do children have to have them and if so the cost of that too please.
Perhaps the cost varies, i am planning to go to Northampton for ours, is there anyone who went there?
Thanks in advance for replies.
Lisa
P.S if this has been discussed in a previous thread could you point me in the right direction, i can't find anything...cheers |

Hello Lisa
We went to Huddersfield, which was really handy for us, so we split it and did Eric & I one day and the children another.
It cost us £80 each for Eric and I and £55 each for the children. We went to BUPA at Halifax for our X-rays and that cost £50 each.
The difference with the children is that they do not need blood tests and urine tests (depending upon age etc) and it only took 1hr for all three as opposed to 2hrs for both Eric and I!!
If you or your partner have any history take as much info/specialist reports as you can get your hands on, and we took red books for the children.
Do you have the list of doctors for your area? You can get it from the NZIS website.
Hope this helps, how is everything else going?

Thankyou Amanda
I did manage to find the list of Docs on the website but couldn't find any info on costs, so thanks for that as it gives us an idea of what to expect.
I'l pm you with our plans.

Just what exactly is involved in getting through the medicals?
I'm in good health and not worried about passing them. But.. what should I expect? Blood and urine tests, obviously, chest X-ray.. anything else?
Thanks to anyone kind enough to share the information! - Rae |

Hi Rae
Expect everything. Ours were very thorough, from top to toe! An hour each for Eric and I.
Suggest you download the form NZIS and have a read through, this will give you an idea of what the Dr is looking for.
Chest X-ray is for TB. Blood for Syphalis. Urine ? Anything they can detect I think e.g Diabetes etc.
The Doctor seemed to be prodding and poking for hours, he even checked vision (Which Eric gave him some pointers on!!) and teeth, along with the obvious Heart, Lungs etc.
Expect the unexpected.

i'm off for my chest x-ray next week (at the london imaging centre), and the full medical a couple of weeks later (at the panel doctor place in canary wharf). it's good to hear from people what their experience was.
so you didn't have to wait for results for the blood and urine tests? you got it all done on the day? that's good to hear - the less waiting the better :) |

Bllod tests took about a week although i suppose this depends where you go. Urine is done on the day.

If you can have your medicals done in NZ as they are far cheaper. You can have them done at your local GP, and they cost us as follows:-
Adults $100 including blood test
Children $75 no blood test needed
Chest X-rays $60 ea for myself and the wife.
Cheers

i had my chest x-ray done at the london imaging centre on wimpole st yesterday morning. cost: £35. i took along my passport + a photo + the form from the immigration.govt.nz website, and they were very familiar with the procedure. half an hour later i walked out with the form completed & signed and an x-ray photo of my chest in a big envelope.
it's the first time i've seen an x-ray of myself (fortunately x-rays don't pick up hangovers). i still think it's amazing that they can develop it in 2 minutes. |

i went to dr mcgrath for my full medical yesterday. he's based in the trinity mirror offices in one canada square, canary wharf. the whole thing took about an hour and cost £75, which was cheaper than some other quotes we got from the panel doctors list. it all went very smoothly and now there's just the blood test results to wait for, which should come through in a week. the examination was very thorough and involved that reflex test where they hit you with a little hammer to see if your foot moves. it was so like something out of a movie that i had to stifle the grin
anyway that's one more step along the road. just need my police certificate now..

Hi Matt,
Tee he, the hammer scenario does seem a little dated for the 21st century, still effective though i guess.
Glad all your meds went well, and good luck with your police checks

Karl
Where did you go for your meds, seems more than reasonable for a family of 4

Police checks 6 months and meds 3 months Moorf. I know because we just had to do our second police checks due to them lapsing.
You have to time it all just right. |
