I do wonder sometimes how easy it is for people to emigrate to the UK - is every country as hard to get into as NZ?!! Ok, it's not THAT hard.. but..

Until you begin a migration journey I don't think you can appreciate how little freedom there is in this world to travel and settle as you like!

*sigh* No

Britain welcomes freeloaders!
This is one of the reasons why we (Susan and I)wish to emigrate ourselves.

Actually, i'm sure all countries have their "do-gooders" complaining that sending refugees back is a basic infringment of human rights blah blah. I can't imagine that all countries are as soft a britain, or maybe the grass isn't greener.

But like you i do also wonder why it is so difficult for us like minded hard working good citizens to enrol and be self sufficient in another land. I do think however that NZ is probably one of the easier ones though. having said that, some other countries like Canada and now OZ are opting for a regional scheme, where some states have historically been ignored by migrants, they allow a reduced points system for skilled migrants. Apparently Adelaide is trying this route to attract more people. it would be nice to also see this from NZIS.

Yep, I have been reading about Canada's immigration policy for some provinces (including BC which is area we would be interested in) - you're right, they have individual point levels depending on the province and your occupation .... it is something that we have considered but we feel we ought to be focussed on one country for the time being - hubby gets fed up with me changing countries monthly .... Yes Laughing but quite frankly we've gotta get outta this place!

On the flipside, if it was too easy then everywhere would be the same and there would be just as many reasons not to go as there are reasons to leave this toilet beore the flush is finished.

I guess then we'd all be on a bulletin board for potential astronauts??

NZ is moving this way, with the extra points on offer for jobs outside of Auckland. I would predict that this regional focus will continue to be refined going forward.

There is also money being spent by some specific NZ regions to attract immigrants because of big skill shortages, examples are Otago and Taranaki's participation in London immigration expos (whereas those areas where migrants are putting pressure on infrastructure, such as Auckland, Tauranga and Nelson are I think doing next to no advertising and recruitment).
