Could anyone give me some idea of the going rate for an agent to make an application under the new Skilled Migrant Category please? I'm being quoted over two thousand pounds which seems a bit much for the work involved.
Cheers,
Ian |

| Do it yourself mate. If you've got a maths degree, you're hardly going to be pushed to fill in the forms and gather the info :) . |

| My brother's electrician friend had difficulty with reading. He seemed smart enough in day to day conversation and was obviously smart enough to get his trade certs but reading wasn't his strong point. He used an agent for his permanent residence application and I'm sure the price was nearer £1,000 than £2,000. |

| We were quoted £2800 for a straight forward general skills application. This was from one of the big companies, needless to say we did it ourselves. I still cant see what they would have done for the money, its not hard, just read the paperwork carefully and take your time. You will be glad you saved your money..I am. |

I hate filling in forms. I have enough of it at work. Still I suppose if someone was to offer me £2000 extra to fill in a few more forms at school I'd be happy enough to do it. I still might be tempted to pay an agent if I could find a reliable one who'd charge £100's rather than £1,000's.
Cheers,
Ian |

I think most people in the old General Skills Category were quite happy to fill in all the forms themselves and most of us didn't need an agent.
It may be that more assistance is needed for business migrants and that's where agents are more important, especially for migrants whose first language is not English and who may be coming from countries whose legal system is very different from the British/New Zealand model. |

Hi Ian
The same as most people on here I filled in my own forms, and went to New Zealand house in London to hand them in, they were very helpful there and if I missed anything out they pointed it out. I did look into paying an agent and the best quote I got was about £600 just for there fees. Please PM me if you want details.
Give it a go and do it yourself. All the information on the immigration web site is very good. www.immigration.govt.nz
