|
|
Can someone help me out here I'm a bit lost as to how some points have gone missing.
Let me explain.
I'm filling out the online form and after completion I'm left with a total of 120 points:
| Quote: | Identity, 30 points
Recognised Qualification, 50 points
Recognised Work Experience, 30 points
Wifes Recognised Qualification, 10 points |
Before I filled it out though I ran through the quick points check list and I was expecting 140:
| Quote: | Identity (Age 20-29), 30 points
Work experience (10 years), 30 points
Work experience in future growth area (6 years or more), 10 points
Recognised qualification, 50 points
Qualification in future growth area, 10 points
Wifes Recognised Qualification, 10 points |
Even though when filling the form I told it the qualification was in an identified future growth area and also that my work experience was the same it has missed out 20 points.
Does anyone have any ideas what to do?
TIA, Barry |

Update:
Just checked the form again and changed
"Has the NZQA Assessed your Qualification" from No to Yes, instantly I get another 20 points.

| Could you tell me whether the points calculator you're using the the "points indicator" linkes from the front page of http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/? I can't see the option you mention on this tool. |

There is the points that add up on the EOI form.
The points calculator you point to there.
There is also a points indicator list here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/Popups/PointsTable.htm
With the first 2 I get 120, the third one totals up to 140.
Edit: The third link is not quite the right one I mean, I'm still trying to hunt it down as they seem to have hidden it away

I'm sure I'm using a different points calculator to yourself. I work it out on paper and get 140-odd as a rough calculation without trying to include my wife etc.
I use the "Points Indicator" popup window from the front immigration page, and it works out around 120-odd.
Is there another points calculator somewhere? The one I'm using doesn't include the option "Has the NZQA Assessed your Qualification". |

OK, you're using the full form (which I've now discovered, having created an account). I was using the "estimator" with fewer options etc.
Thanks. |

On a side note just noticed something else
On the points calculator your partner gets 10 points for english language ability (try adding and removing and calculating)
On the online EOI form you do not get the 10 points. |

Well according to the calculator you should get 10 points for English and 10 points for a degree (which my wife has)
I should get 30 for my age (less than 29), 50 points for my qualification plus another 10 for it being an OSL qualification (IT), 30 points for work experience (10 years) and 10 points for more than 6 of them being a job on the OSL (IT).
Hmm that works out at 150 not 140 ....
The EOI form though works me out at 120
As you can see 10 are missing for my wifes English, 10 are missing for my qualification and 10 are missing from my work experience.
I'm just checking the points calculator form as I think thats fubar'd. |

So what do we do? We have similar discrepancies... worrying. |

Another thing that's confusing me at the moment with the form application is that it does not seem to have as much information for the secondary applicant. It does not appear to want my wife's employment history, only details of her degree.
Also, am I correct in thinking that the form only permits you to enter one qualification per applicant?
Azazel, the 50-point qualification bonus in addition to 30 points for work experience while still being under 29 is puzzling! Either some dodgy maths going on, or a part-time Masters and Bachelors (which still doesn't add up unless you've got a time machine!) :) |

OK I've dissected the points calculator form and something is amiss/not being calculated.
As a reference I'll break the whole thing down.
Points are only ever award for Yes so No always = 0 points.
Some sections also when you select No cancel any points (eg. 10 years on a job = 0 if its not a comparable labour market)
Points for Yes scores are given in brackets or where there are several layers in italics below.
Skilled Employment
(60) Have you been in skilled employment in NZ for 12 months or more (ongoing)?
or
(50) Have you been in skilled employment in NZ for less than 12 months?
or
(50) Do you have an offer of skilled employment in NZ?
You can only claim one of the above
Is your work, or offer of employment, in any one of NZ's:
(5) identified future growth areas?
(5) identified clusters?
(5) areas of absolute skills shortage?
(10) Is your work or offer of employment for a location outside of Auckland in NZ?
Qualifications
(50) Do you have a recognised basic qualification?
or
(55) Do you have a recognised post-graduate qualification?
You can only claim one of the above
(10) Do you have a recognised NZ qualification (and at least 2 years study in NZ)?
Do you have a qualification in any one of NZ's:
(5) identified future growth areas?
(5) identified clusters?
(5) areas of absolute skills shortage?
Relevant Work Experience
Number of years of relevant experience (anywhere)
0 to 2 years = 0
2 to 4 years = 10
4 to 6 years = 15
6 to 8 years = 20
8 to 10 years = 25
10 or more years = 30
Number of years of relevant experience in New Zealand
0 to 2 years = 0
2 to 4 years = 5
4 to 6 years = 10
6 or more years = 15
Number of such years experience in any one of NZ's:
identified future growth areas?
0 to 2 years = 0
2 to 5 years = 5
6 or more years = 10
identified clusters?
0 to 2 years = 0
2 to 5 years = 5
6 or more years = 10
areas of absolute skills shortage?
0 to 2 years = 0
2 to 5 years = 5
6 or more years = 10
Was the work experience gained in a comparable labour market?
If the answer is False the entire Work Experience points section does not count
Age
What is your current age?
Under 20 = 0
20 to 29 = 30
30 to 39 = 25
40 to 44 = 20
45 to 49 = 10
50 to 55 = 5
Partner
(0) Do you have a partner?
(0) Would your partner have the required English proficiency to qualify as a principal applicant?
(10) Is your partner currently employed, or has he/she been offered employment in New Zealand?
(10) Does your partner have a recognised basic qualification? |

50 points for a Level 4 IT Qualification
I am now 28 and have worked in computers since the age of 16 which gives me 12 years in IT which is on the OSL.
The qualification is also on the OSL. |

| The points calculator in its current state should now give me 135 but it still gives 120. |
