I e-mailed 15 agencies asking the same question and they all say you need to be a permanent resident to get permanent jobs. How the hell can you get the PR unless you get a job offer, which they won't give you without a WP!! I'm going loopy with all this red tape.

It's rubbish - you don't need to be a resident to get a permanent job. You can get a permanent job and get a work permit for 2 years. E-mail your CV direct to companies - see my previous posts. Maybe by permanent job they mean more than 2 years.

I was about to suggest this very same idea. If you choose this option, I would recommend establishing a mortgage known as a "revolving line of credit". It acts in the same way as a giant credit card - you only draw out funds as you need them (as opposed to taking out a single loan to begin with and paying interest on funds that you don't as yet need to use). If things don't work out in NZ then at least you'll still have your property in the UK to fall back on (albeit with the extra debt attached to it). |

Thanks for the tips - I am definitely thinking a direct approach to companies is the way to go now. All they can do is say no but someone might help out.
Big thanks for the mortgage idea - I have heard of this before, in fact I think my sister in law has done it, but its funny how really obvious information that you used to know gets buried in the back of yur brain when you are researching so hard! |

Hiya,
I'm in IT, and I found that a few agencies were willing to consider me for permanent roles, despite not having PR. It probably helped that I was in NZ on a working holiday visa, so I was available for interviews.
One thing to make sure about is that you can talk confidently about how you should be able to get PR with the job offer. At the time I was looking, it was under the old category, so I had to demonstrate that the job would give me the extra points for the passmark.
Good luck, and just remember that it is possible to get a job without PR - otherwise NOBODY would be able to get through under the new category with the current selection point
Cheers,
Evelynne |
