I am a bit confused to whom I am addressing thats my first try.I need to have the right information and advice concerning my decision to migrate to NZ.I have heard it is an enormous beautiful peaceful country and that's what my husband and I need after long years of struggle and descrimination and unjustice. My husband an agricultural engineer working in an oil company,as safety and environment manager. He worked so hard and finally he reached the point where he discovered all what he worked for has gone for nothing .At age of 56 still have lot to give and achieve for himself ,family and the community but need the good soil and environment to put his experience and knowledge.he wish his son to get the best of education in the best environment.that is why we are looking for NZ to fulfill our dream.I am 45 years old I am social work graduated from american university in lebanon.loved my major but because of war I could not find job.we are living in cairo now. We need to know if we have chance to live in peace and get the feeling that through our work we are doing something good for us as a family and for the community we live in.It is dreadful to live working and struggling in your work and life to achieve what you believe in for the good of your family , sociaty ,and to live in harmony and love for yourself and people all goes for nothing.sorry my letter too long but I needed to explain and express our determination to migrate .I will appriciate any helful information .Thank you in advance.

Dear Najwa,

Welcome to the forum!!!! cool

Having read the bare facts in your posting I believe your only real hope is to use YOUR skills and apply as the principle applicant!

Your husband is too old at 56 to be accepted as the principle applicant under a skilled migrant application.

YOU however do have a chance and if successful you and your immediate family would also be granted residency, but you do need to show at least 2 years relevant work experience in your qualified field!

You need over 100 points to enter the selection pool and currently only those with 180 points are being processed. This is likely to settle down over the coming year to a more reasonable figure of say 110-130. It will vary dependent upon the quality of applicants at any given time.

The links at the end of this message will allow you to make an initial assessment.

You must also satisfy the english language requirements, see ESOL requirements.

You can submit your application online and it costs NZD315 to do this using a credit card it cost more (NZ$465 I think) if you download a form and send in a paper application.

You will see from the postings on this site and the NZIS forms that getting a job offer is of paramount importance to being selected!!!!

DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO ENTER THE POOL YET even if you have over 100 points! Your application fee only buys you 3 months after which time you need to re-apply and pay again!

Only apply when the points required are achievable for your personal situation otherwise you will lose your money unneccessarily! You can check out the current selction level by visiting the NZIS website every two weeks to see what the current level is! Next selection is April 30th and is expected to be 175 points!

I hope this helps....sorry for being rather blunt but you need to know the facts good and bad before you build your hopes up! I believe your application will require a lot of work on your part to be sucessful!!

Kind regards

Hi Najwa, Smile

Let me add my welcome to the forum as well!

Karl is right on target regarding the necessary requirements to get into the country (unless you have a sizeable bank account...$2MM NZD or more that you could invest). Getting into NZ is a bit of work and there is a lot of detail but it can be done.

With regard to the country itself, seeing is believing! Yes NZ is a wonderful place...not for everyone, but as close to paradise as any we've visited. Discrimination exists around the world unfortunately. However Kiwi's are a tolerant bunch and tend to "live and let live" as long as you're able to assimilate into the local culture. 19% of all the folks in NZ are emigrants so there’s a good chance that your neighbor moved from somewhere else as well.

Wages are not as good as in some western countries, but the cost of living isn't as high either. We're moving for the quality of life experience.

Being a great distance from the rest of the world, it's as safe a place as there is these days. Guns are generally illegal except for hunting and who has time to commit crimes when there’s so much beauty to enjoy?!

Is it perfect? No place is. But if you're looking for a wonderful environment for you and your family, you'd be hard pressed to do much better.

The best thing to do is visit first. The airfare and lodging would be a good investment. Plus you'll have a great vacation to look back on if nothing else. In the end you may not think it's the best place to live. Then you can move on to somewhere else without spending too much time or money.

Take a look at the other postings here and you'll get a feel for how everyone else is doing. These people are great and very helpful. There's a great frustration with the NZIS right now as it seems they are doing everything possible to discourage migrants, but hopefully that will improve with time.

Best of luck and let us know how you are doing now and then! Nice One
