Hi Guys. Great site. Really impressed.
I have just started to complete my EOI form. I need to increase my chances of emigrating to NZ, so can anyone give any help, tips, advice with the following:
I work in IT. No qualification apart from being Microsoft Certified, which doesn’t appear to be on the list of recognised qualifications. When completing the relevant work experience, do I try to be as technical as possible (put lots of buzzwords) to enhance myself or keep it simple.
I need to try and get a job offer. Is it worthwhile sending out my CV to every company in NZ (this technique works pretty well here in the UK). I need to try for a job outside of Auckland, so what is the next best thing in regards to IT job prospects.
I am a staunch Rugby League supporter (Leeds Rhinos). Will this be counted against me (will I have to convert to the Dark Side!!!).
Thanks (more questions to follow - maybe) |

Sorry we cant be having any Rhinos fans on this forum lowering the tone Cas rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry cant help with IT, but I do know you wont be winning anything this year , but then again neither will we
Yes, when we get there that will be the thing I will miss most going down lane on a miserable cold Sunday afternoon, I know there is always SKY but its not the same as been there is it, suppose we will have to go watch All Blacks, and be long distance cas or in your case rhino's fans.
I am only joking good luck with everything you do

Hi Staton
I would suggest that you keep the work experience jargon free so that
case officers using the forms will be able understand the key roles without being a techie.
Please look up http://www.seek.co.nz/ for jobs in IT and I would suggest that you target atleast 10 companies and fine tune your CV to the jobs advertised. Mass mailings do not come out with positive results.
A more streamlined, job specific CV is better as they will show your skills and experience that you have to offer.
Most ads are from recruitment agencies and often specify that you already have a work permit, or be a NZ resident. - a dilemma for most people applying from overseas! Some might consider your applicaion and will expect you to travel for a face to face interview, or might call you for a telephone interview.
Best of luck
