Does anybody have any suggestions for areas on the North Shore that are within reasonable commuting of the city at rush hour ?

I will be working at Greenlane and Richard will (hopefully, probably ???) be working in the city.

I know about the ferries from Devonport but is there anywhere else that you can drive to and then catch a ferry into the city.

Hi Michelle,

Onewa road is the closest on-ramp to the bridge this leads to Northcote, Birkenhead,Highbury and Chatswood.

On the other side there is Bayswater and Stanley Point.

All have ferry services to Quay street ferry terminal.

Hope that helps! cool

Thanks Karl, thats a big help. Is there any areas to avoid ???

Do you work at Auckland hospital? sure I read that somewhere. I will be working there initially but the unit is moving to Greenlane in Nov. Have spent 17 years driving to work on the M62 so want to keep the commute to a minimum.

Michelle.

Hi Michelle,

No I don't work there! Getting over the bridge is all a matter of timing and much depends on you working hours. It does all move ....but slowly and feeder roads like Onewa road can get congested in the mornings. My advice is to rent for a while until you can assess the pros and cons of living on the shore and commuting to the CBD/Greelane. Where to live also depends very much on how many pennies you've got to play with of course!

Ah, saw you mention something about Auckland hospital in a previous post and pressumed you worked there.

Looking for something with a water view and close to nice walks. We lived in Remuera before and loved it but views are at a premium although we loved being so close to Parnell, Mission Bay St Heliers etc. Will rent initially probably where we were before as the familiarity will help.

Thanks for your help.

My mate lives at Birkenhead and enjoys ferrying across to the city for work. If you can avoid a car commute then it really improves the Auckland experience.

He says there are quite a few Brits in that area.
